Even as a child in the horse world, Monty Roberts was uncomfortable with the conventional method of breaking, or training, a horse. He competed in rodeos for 22 years, all the while searching for a better way. Eventually, he learned it from the horses themselves. By watching wild mustangs, Roberts was able to identify some of their body language and apply it himself. A good portion of this 48-minute video is devoted to Roberts demonstrating his "whispering" technique on a mustang separated from the herd. His mission: to get the wild horse to accept a saddle and rider within the space of a few days--without force. Of course, he is successful. But knowing the outcome doesn't diminish the exhilaration of watching the dance between wild animal and gentle conqueror. Roberts used some of the same principles in raising his 3 children and more than 40 foster children and now teaches his method to corporate management groups. --Kimberly Heinrichs

I don't understand the two reviewers who thought this was a farce. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have tried a variety of Monty's suggestions albeit with well-trained polo ponies. Still, the responses of these horses to my Monty Roberts-inspired methods of getting their cooperation and the whole experience borders on the Zen of the relationship between man and horse. Why am I convinced Monty is right? Because these 6 horses belong to a friend of mine. Not me. They don't have the day to day familiarity to accept me unless Monty is right about everything. My 11 year old daughter is convinced too.

Monty Roberts is an extraordinary man. His way with horses is truly unique and exeptionally gentle. He is the complete opposite of "conventional" horsemen who use methods of "breaking" to train a horse. He is a truly gentle man who wants no more than to make the world a better place for horses. In this video, using his "Join-Up" method, Monty goes out into the plains to gentle a wild mustang, using only the horse's own body language that he learned as a boy. He causes this mustang to accept it's first saddle, bridle, and rider without fear or pain. This wild horses accepts Monty as one of his own and as his friend. Monty's work with this mustang made the horse WANT to be with him, rather than being forced to be with him. Monty Roberts is a wonderful man and this video showcases his talent and gift with horses. Any person who loves horses and believes that they should be treated with respect and kindness... this video is for you! It is pefect for all horse lovers as well. I highly recommend it to EVERYONE!!!!

I had the chance to view this movie on public television for the first time; what a great person Monty is; he not only has studied horse and animal behavior, but also human behavior; which he applies to his many adopted children, a very inspiring book all around; am giving the videos for christmas gifts; dont miss out on viewing this.
