Biography

Formed in 1988 after the demise of the Bay Area punk band Crimpshine, from day one Fifteen forged punk-pop songs with strong social messages. Singer/guitarist Jeff Ott's lyrics focus on social justice and issues such as homelessness, drug abuse, environmental destruction, and government strong-arm tactics. Many of the themes that his songs deal with seem to be pulled from his own experience;… Read more in Amazon's Fifteen Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Best 15 album since their "Choice of a New Generation", October 24, 2000
By "johnnyproblem" (New Castle, DE. USA) - See all my reviews
Jeff Ott is one of the most hated/loved personalities in punk rock today. He is either viewed as the inspirational voice of the oppressed, homeless and abused or the an insincere oppurtunist, manipulator, user and fraud. I personally have found a great deal of value in what he has to say and frankly sincere or not at the very least his words will cause to think and maybe open your eyes. Anyway none of this tells you what to expect from this album so lets get to the review. This is easily the most punk 15 have sounded since thier amazing "Choice of a New Generation". The guitars are loud and fairly aggresive with an absolute minimum of Hendrixesque wanking (something that has been my major gripe with the last few releases). "Survivor" is a brillant farewell to a band that has been a punk institution since the late '80s breakup of the great CRIMPSHRINE. Jeff may not continue making records or touring the country but he definitely left on a high note....Now for the sympathy vote, this album is also a benefit for "Prison Radio" which an organization that exist to "challenge mass incarceration and racism by airing the voices of men and women in prison" (quote taken from the essay "Toward Justice and Freedom" included in the CD booklet). I think it should be obvious to everyone that our legal system is flawed and should be questioned, open your eyes and get informed!

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD but fifteen is getting to be just HIPPY MUSIC., October 23, 2000
By BOB (Santa Rosa, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I like fifteen, there good. but this album just mostly talks about jeff's family and stuff. as time goes by the albums begin to be more liberal. They also make fun of punkers in this album, but through all that i've said being an ANTI-FLAG punk rocker its still a good album from there hearts.

4.0 out of 5 stars quality album, August 16, 2001
By A Customer
The album is a lengthy and solid Fifteen tour de force/farewell/whatever. Roughly half the songs are in some way related to Jeff's private life, as he highlights the personal as political and, as always, imperviously speaks his mind. Everyone seems to debate Jeff's personality and motivations to such an extent that the musicianship is often overlooked. In addition to Jeff's guitar playing, the bass and drum work on this album are incredibly tight, edgy, and more developed than other Fifteen albums. Overall, this is an excellent political/punk album that has loose ties to Crimpshrine's gutterpunk sound.

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS SUCKS
I used to love this band in the early 90's, (Swain's, Choice, etc.). What happened? This is one of those cd's that makes you embarrassed when you listen to it. Read more
