The Toshiba 55A60 offers the power of four key Toshiba technologies that work together to deliver a stellar viewing experience. First, the high-contrast TheaterBright screen uses a double lenticular (two-lens) configuration that incorporates a surface-layer diffuser, which concentrates the tinting on a thin layer of the surface of the screen. The result is a high-resolution, high-brightness screen with a wide 160-degree viewing angle for use in any room. The screen is also tinted for increased contrast.
Second, the 55A60 uses the Dynamic PowerFocus lens system, a high-quality four-element lens system that is designed to maximize both sharpness and brightness. The light emitted from each red, green, and blue cathode ray tube (CRT) has different characteristics. During viewing, maintaining brightness may be more critical to one CRT, while maintaining sharpness may be more critical to another. By utilizing a combination of the latest lens technologies, including both red and green color purity filters, Toshiba engineers have carefully matched lenses to each gun for the best possible combination of sharpness, brightness, and picture uniformity.
To ensure picture uniformity, Toshiba has also incorporated a Dynamic Quadruple Focus system. While most CRTs can create a fairly precise round beam spot in the center of the picture, many create a less precise elliptical beam spot at the edges and corners. With those CRTs, the sharpness at the edges and corners of the picture is noticeably worse than at the center of the picture. Dynamic Quadruple Focus ensures that even the edges and corners also have a precise beam spot for a sharp, uniform picture from corner to corner.
Next, the 55A60 sports ColorStream component-video inputs, which are the best inputs to use for today's higher-resolution sources such as DVD players and digital TV set-top boxes. Because the video signal is split into its base components--Y (the black and white part of the picture), Pr (red minus Y), and Pb (blue minus Y)--the signal remains pure and unaffected by the TV's comb filter or NTSC decoder. The result is higher resolution and improved color purity and ultimate picture quality from interlaced component-video signals.
Finally, enjoy sharp, clean picture quality from RF and composite-video signals with the 55A60's advanced digital comb filter. Comb filters analyze scanning lines to separate the luminance (black and white) signal from the chrominance (color) signal. This allows the TV to process the entire video signal, without a reduction in resolution. A digital comb filter converts the analog signal into a digital signal for more accurate processing, virtually eliminating dot crawl or cross-color interference, thereby producing a superior picture. While digital comb filters improve the vertical edges of images, vertical contour correction works with the comb filters to improve the horizontal edges for complete image enhancement.
In addition to all of its image-enhancing technology, the 55A60 has robust, user-friendly features. Two-tuner picture-in-picture and multiwindow features let you watch two shows at the same time and monitor up to nine favorite channels simultaneously. Front A/V input jacks allow you to conveniently connect video sources to the TV, without the hassles of rear-mounted inputs. They're great for connecting camcorders, for viewing tapes, or connecting video game consoles. An illuminated universal remote control allows you full TV control in the dark, and besides providing total control of the TV, it also controls key features on most brands of VCRs and cable boxes. Broadcast stereo with dbx noise reduction/SAP improves the clarity and fidelity of stereo broadcasts by restoring dynamic range and suppressing unwanted noise. The Sub Bass System enhances low bass frequencies to give added depth and resonance to dialogue and sound effects.
