Twenty or thirty years ago, if anyone had tried to imagine what worship would sound like in the 21st century, he or she probably would have been way off. What Delirious has brought to life with its 2000 release Glo is nothing less than a perfect depiction of worshipful expression in a new millennium, something no forecast could have predicted. Blending the most celebrated aspects of their previous records, Glo combines the electronic space-rock of Mezzamorphis with the euphoric worship anthems of King of Fools and Cutting Edge. The exotic songcraft and production together fashion this otherworldly journey, and crest with Martin Smith's divinely awestruck and heaven-desperate temperament. Although Delirious has been in the worshipping business since the early 1990s, each member has retained a focused passion that clearly is unfeigned and likely to cause an internal double take within those who attempt a causal listen. Even the floaty electronic textures of Glo's ballads carry an energy that will not let one drift from the path that the songs are taking. This extravagant response of worship to an infinite God is unmatched by any other worship artist. Delirious fans already will hold a high opinion of the band, but this disc exceeds even lofty expectations. --Israel Button

After proclaiming with its last release, Mezzamorphis, that it was a band going places, leaving the past behind, the British quintet Delirious returns to its praise & worship origins on Glo.

With Cutting Edge, the two-disc collection that brought Delirious' early recordings of modern praise & worship songs to the States, the band spearheaded a movement that has had a profound effect on the Christian recording industry while impacting worship leaders in thousands of local settings. The band's larger-than-life instrumental atmospherics and simple words of adoration to God created an environment of reflection, celebration and spirited revival.

Glo continues in that tradition, broadening the instrumental palette yet again, allowing its growth as a modern rock/power pop band to take praise-oriented songs like "Hang on to You," "God's Romance" and "Awaken the Dawn" to new heights."God, You Are My God" opens the record with monk-like chanting, which is very nearly reprised in the album's closing song "Jesus Blood." While we've heard such chants incorporated more creatively by Enigma and Jars of Clay, Delirious, as it does throughout, incorporates these sounds in its own highly stylized and crafty manner. Delirious excels in its uncanny pop sensibility, palpable on "Hang On to You." Martin Smith's voice exudes sincerity and soulful yearning, and the songs' mix of the abstract language of praise and more personal narratives provide key connections.

Especially on the gentle ballad "What Would I Have Done?" we hear the compelling expression of humanity's crying out for God, celebrating the gift of new life in Christ. The band adds to all of this with exciting instrumental passages, lifting one's imagination and inviting listeners to participate. Whether Delirious continues in this praise fashion or returns to pop-oriented formulations, the band's always allowed God's presence and Spirit into the mix, which gives Glo its heart. -- Brian Quincy Newcomb (c) 2000 CCM Communications, Inc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious!, October 10, 2000
I bought this cd when it was released in the United Kingdom, so I've had months to listen and fall in love with this music. The first song really gets my toes tapping when I'm driving. I love the actual monks chanting and the awesome sound of fans singing, "We're going to the house of God; we're going to the house of God; are you coming?" It gets me into the mood to praise God.

The highlight of this album for me is the track "My Glorious." I have been a D: fan since I heard them in the UK back in 1997. And I have kneeled and prayed while listening to their songs, clapped and shouted to their songs. But this track is like no other. They have a group of fans singing the chorus, and I can just imagine myself with them. And after singing the words "My glorious, my glorious" over many times, the fans just erupt in cheers, while the band plays and sings over them. It is amazing. I have actually cried for joy while listening and singing to this song...SEVERAL times! No music has ever had that effect on me.

If you want to be lifted into worship AND to enjoy some great pop and harder rock sounds, buy this album. You will not be disappointed. One word of warning though: If you like softer praise music, you will like Cutting Edge much more than this album. But if you like rock that rocks, this is the best one yet!

When you hear the Delirious is releasing another worship cd, then you immediately know it's going to be good. All that's left to ask now is: "How good?" The answer is simple: "Incredible!" This cd is unique in that there are 4 "Glo" cuts that are spontaneous worship times when the band was finished with a song but felt led to continue playing and flowing afterward. Definitely not your usual studio album! Several great songs on here, as well as an updated "Jesus' Blood" from the "Mezzamorphis" cd. "Awaken the Dawn" is great, and the first song "God You are my God" is fabulous! No doubt you'll be hearing these songs rotate through worship services of churches everywhere before long! I know they'll be in our youth services very soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars GLOriously Stratospheric., March 24, 2001
By Paul Blackham (Trafford, PA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Now that Delirious is big-time mainstream in America (you've all seen Martin "Smiff" singing live at Wembley on the Weather Channel commercials), with sold-out concerts in Nashville and Houston, you'd expect the boys from Britain to blend into the rest of the Christian music scene and get predictable on us. WRONGO!! Glo is an amazingly unpredictable, surprising, creative-to-the-max work of art. They've got singing monks on here, for heaven's sake! (no pun intended). They've got bagpipes, choirs, string quartets, and oh yeah, screaching guitars that will send smoke through your speakers. GLO is short for Glorious, and this CD will lift you into the glorious heights of the majesty of God. As others have noted, some of the best stuff on here can be found on the spontaneous "Glo In The Dark" tracks which are extensions of the previous songs (my favorite part of the whole CD is when Martin says "Here we go, boys!" on "Glo In The Dark Part 3). "God's Romance" is a great rock-n-roll worship party song with a hint of Achtung Baby-esque production tricks. "My Glorious" is another, well, "glorious" power-worship tune, and the songs "Everything" (with a cool video; rain, wind, fire: kind of reminds you of the Holy Spirit, eh?), "Hang On To You", "Awaken The Dawn", and "The Years Go By" are magnificent. And those are just the loud songs! The quiet, introspective songs are excellent, too. "God You Are My God" is a classic. The d: boys have done it again.
