4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Electronic Ambient CD!!!!, November 21, 2000
By Richard Stringfellow "dv8or70" (Monroe, WA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I just picked this album up over the last weekend and was blown away! I had already owned Dubtribe Sound Systems previous CDs, "Bryant Street" and "Volume One". Anyone looking for the house/dance sounds of those albums is going to be surprised.

This compilation comprises of a re-release of their 1994 release, "Selene's Song" on disc one, and a previously unreleased CD of material on disc two. Music on these two releases equates very similarly to the ambient works of Loop Guru and The Orb. D.S.S. understand their music and it's history (Eno, Satie, and Miles Davis are mentioned in the liner notes). Disc one opens with a quiet contemplative 16 minute track, memory. Track 2 picks up the pace a bit, but is hardly intrusive. Melodic, gentle beats propel the listener along an outer worldly existence through the end of the disc - alternately picking up the pace, then slowing it down again with waves of sound. Disc two continues with a space themed music over-dubbed by a physicist giving a lecture on his extensive studies of the Kabala.

People looking for ambient house music that envelops and expands your world would do well to purchase this extrordinary CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful and relaxing, September 23, 2004
By double-a (pacific north-left usa) - See all my reviews
in all, a great compilation. music ranges from happy, trippy beats to more serious, deep and richly textured works. some of the pieces, like 'memory part one' flow slow and deep. others, like 'sunshine's theme' and 'selene's song' are lighter. the first track on disc two is a long one, 30 minutes. but an interesting piece, ebbing and flowing, dipping and diving with intermixing beats and vocal samples.
