If you get chills just thinking about getting your résumé together, WinWay Resume Deluxe may be just what you need to fight those job-searching blues. With a wide selection of customizable résumés, cover letter templates, Internet job search capabilities, and simulated job interviews, Resume Deluxe offers a discernable advantage over creating a résumé from scratch with your word processor.

The nice thing about Resume Deluxe is that it lets you decide how much help you need with your job search and preparation process. If you simply want a program to help you align the bullet points on your résumé or line up your education and career experience sections, Resume Deluxe will provide that service. If you're looking for more extensive help, such as a video to guide you through the interview process and to help you practice negotiating salary requirements, this application provides those services as well.

One feature we especially appreciated was the selection of résumé templates--whether you're looking for a professional, no-nonsense format, or you prefer to add some pizzazz, Resume Deluxe has a good selection of templates from which to choose. Users also have the option to pick a résumé template based on a specific career. However, this option seems to lack the precision one might expect--when we typed in "writer" as a career choice, the closest templates we could find were for such jobs as "Type-Rolling-Machine Operator" and "Inspector, Automatic Typewriter." Still, the templates do give you a general sense of how to lay out your résumé, as well as the type of information you should include in each field.

Another notable feature is the Internet Job Agent, which allows users to search for jobs and post résumé on the Web. You must have an Internet connection to use this feature; however, WinWay always asks permission before connecting you. Once connected, you can narrow your search, depending upon geographic location and job title keywords. Unlike our experience with customizable résumés, the Job Agent found us almost 300 job listings for writers in our city. Most of these listings are pulled from well-known job search engines, which saves users from having to search each individual database.

While other features like the interview simulation and salary negotiation seem a bit elementary or unbelievable, Resume Deluxe does prove its worth as a valuable part of any job search. Whether you take advantage of all the program's features or you simply choose the ones that fit best with your objectives, Resume Deluxe is sure to get the job done. --Gisele Toueg

I have both Winway and Resume Maker Deluxe 10 (by Individual Software Co.) I have some comments for Winway and a comparison between the two programs:

1. Winway does not have a wizard that guides every step of writing and creating a proper resume and cover letter. All it does is only giving you a some headlines and titles and ask you to fill your qualitfications and experiences. It does not guide you. It is only "fill in the blanks" template.

2. Although this software claims that it has 100,000 phrases for you to choose, most phrases and sentences does not stand out. For example, it gives you a sentence like "position as a <position title> which utilize my <your skills>". <position title> and <your skills> are blank and you have to fill them yourself. It does not suggest how you can present your skills. Only few examples to choose from.

3. If you are an excellent writer and have excellent work experience, then this software can help you make your resumes more good looking and neat and tidy. But this software does little on improving the content of your resumes and letters. It seems assuming that you already know how to write and present.

4. If you are recent graduate who does not know the art of writing a resume and letter, then this software is not for you. The only thing a graudate would benefit from this software is the interview video. It does a good job giving "model answers" on stressful, unlawful and general interview questions. And the video and sound quality is much better than Individual Software's Resume Maker Deluxe 10.

5 Comparison between Winway and Resume Maker Deluxe 10:
A. Winway is for sophisticated people who only need a program for the appearence for their resume. Resume Maker Deluxe 10 is for people who don't really know the format and art of writing a resume. The phrases in Resume Maker Deluxe 10 is far more powerful, convincing, persuasive, impressive and representative. The sample resumes and letters in Resume Maker Deluxe 10 also impress more.

B. As for appearence, Resume Maker Deluxe 10 only has about 30 resume appearence layouts (themes) while Winway has about 50. However Resume Maker Deluxe 10 tells you when to use which format and layout and has step by step wizards tailoring your needs. If you are college graduate, Resume Maker Deluxe 10 definitely does a better job for you than Winway does.

C. Stability of the software: RMD10 does automatically close itself sometimes and your unsaved data may lose.

In conclusion, Winway is for professional job seekers while Resume Maker Deluxe 10 is for people who are totally unsure of how to present and sell their qualifications and strengths in their resumes.

This package is an excellent resource to help individuals who are stumped by the job search process and placing individual skills and qualifications on paper. The program does it all for you. Of course, if you're one of those selective individual who is looking for personal style, this is not your program. I work with many job seekers who want a quick resume for the regular workforce. People seem to enjoy and relish the product when all you have to do is press enter and the entire personal data is placed into a chronological and targeted format. I would highly recommend this program for anyone wanting a quick fix to marketing their skills. No one should pay hard earned dollars to have someone else prepare a resume. If you can type, this is it!

This program did not come close to matching its performance promises. It is basically a glorified word processing program with a few templates. It isn't anything you could not do on your own. Don't waste the $40.00.
