Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Capture the feeling of the great outdoors while sitting at your computer or in the office. The Ott-Lite VisionSaver lamp simulates natural daylight, reducing eyestrain and allowing you to see colors and definition more accurately. Developed by Dr. John Nash Ott, the Ott- Lite uses a blend of phosphors to provide a natural light that won't wear on you over time as other artificial lighting can.

A shield on the top of the lamp contains the 1x magnifier (which actually magnifies 2x) that adjusts by sliding it back and forth. When not in use, the magnifier can be folded up inside the shield. There is no on-off switch, but the light will turn off automatically when the shield is folded down.

The base of the lamp can be swiveled 360 degrees for a perfect fit in any work environment. Standing just 12 inches tall, the portable Ott- Lite is best suited for task lighting. A convenient carrying handle allows you to move it easily from one workspace to another. It is also equipped with two data ports (one on each side of the base) for connecting to your laptop, modem, or telephone.

When we examined the Ott-Lite, we found its effect to indeed be more like natural daylight than the standard desk lamp we used for comparison. The Ott-Lite's 5-inch bulb provided a crisp yet soothing light without being too bright, while the standard desk lamp gave off a focused yellowish glow. Colors appeared more accurately with the Ott- Lite, and we detected virtually no glare on the computer screen, so text and detail looked sharper.

The Ott-Lite would be ideal for graphic arts professionals or anyone who would like to bring a little of the outdoors in. It comes with a one-year warranty, instructions for assembly, telephone cord, and a magnifier cleaning cloth.

5.0 out of 5 stars ott lite, November 26, 2002
By A Customer
As soon as I can afford to get the other type of Ott-Lite's for the other rooms in the house where I like to read I am going to do it. This is the best quality light. Currently I just have the portable and I move it from my computer desk to wherever I am reading. This was a great investment for my eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great help, February 10, 2007
By ladyr "ladyreader" (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
I bought an older version of this lamp years ago (no magnifier), and it has been a part of my "office health kit" ever since. I purchased a small round mirror (about a foot in diameter) at a craft store and I stand the lamp on it, plus I added a small mirror fastened against the upright "post" - so when it is open and lit, the whole fixture radiates more light, in more directions, then just the lamp along (reflected rays).

I have worked quite a variety of office jobs since I bought this, and always take it with me and set it to the left of the computer, where I tend to focus when I'm not looking at the screen (and where I place material to read, or to type). I've recommended it to quite a few people for a similar usage, and am totally satisfied with the product. It's made an enormous, positive difference in my life, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat!

4.0 out of 5 stars VissionSaver Portable, July 9, 2006
Light is easy on the eyes , but not powerful enough at 13 watts .
Eighteen would be much better . Magnifier is clunky and basically unusable . An option to run on batteries would have been nice . I bought this lamp thinking portable meant AC/DC operation . I like the auto-shutoff when arm is pushed down .

1.0 out of 5 stars Magnifier not adequate
The information on the advertisement said it was a 2X magnifier, when it arrived it was only 1X which is not strong enough for someone with macular degeneration.
