4.0 out of 5 stars They got back, March 27, 2001
By Mario Abela (Siggiewi Malta) - See all my reviews
After 34.788%, an album that disappointed loads of fans of My Dying Bride, because of the music it had, they are back now, back to the Turn Loose the Swans sound, with heavy guitar riffs and Aaron growling again. 9 master pieces again from My Dying Bride with the title track "The light at the end of the world" being one of the greatest from this album, very sad song.

4.0 out of 5 stars In depth listening, April 5, 2004
By Brian Skala "crx90" (Fort Worth, TX United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Light at the End of the World was the next cd I got. The band returns to their much heavier and "doomier" sound which was along the lines of 1993's Turn Loose the Swans. The at the time of the recording, one of the guitarists Calvin had left the band so it was Andrew that recorded all the guitars. So for obvious reasons he probaly wrote more of the music and would make some sense why he feels this is the best MDB album.
This album I have found requires in depth listening. Not a cd you can just have in the background and catch glimpes of it here and there. Each song tells a fascinating story and the sounds of sorrow can be heard through each verse.
The mood can shift around alot on this release. From heavy to quiet, from slow to fast it has a very direct sound. Tracks "She is the Dark" and "The Isis Script" are some of My Dying Brides best tunes and have alot of firey energy and passion. "Edenbeast" is a long epic that can put you into a trance by Andrew's guitars and Aaron's sinister vocals. "The Light at the End of the World" is a story epic, a depressing journey into misery.Great keyboards on this song. "The Fever Sea" is a brutal track that sound best very loud. Sear me III is another fine track, very gothic and dark. The feel of the entire album makes me feel unassure about life and reality and nothing is far from the truth.

Another great release that took several listens to enjoy it more. So far I got all thier albums except "As the Flower Withers". Naturally, it will be next.

2.0 out of 5 stars Errr..., January 16, 2004
By T. O "golgothae" (Scandinavia) - See all my reviews
This was a huge disappointment cd for me. I hoped that they had evolved a little more than this since the last time. To me this might be the worst MDB album ever. I never listen to it and probably never will again cause it is not half as good as they really used to be. Or..that's not true is it? Cause the next album they created The Dreadful Hours once again put them back on the throne of doom. I guess TLATEOTW was a period where the band really wasn't well enough into what they where making. It seems uninspired and just boring. It pains me to say it though. But all is forgiven..cause the next album was great and the next one coming out ...well today..will be even better. Of course..I would like to hear them do an album like Opeth did like Damnation. Butbut..My Dying Bride does their own thing..I'm happy they are still here.
