Product Description

Product Description

The StarTech.com dual fan hard drive cooling kit provides maximum airflow for hot-running hard drives, preventing overheating failures and extending the life of the drive. The fan unit mounts in any free 5.25 inch half height drive bay, and the hard drive is mounted directly behind it using the supplied 3.5 inch to 5.25 inch adapter brackets. Fresh cool external air is drawn into the case through a removable, cleanable filter and blown directly over the hard drive by 2 quiet running fans. Perfect for extending the life of hot running 7200 RPM, 10,000, or 15,000 RPM IDE and SCSI hard drives in servers or workstations.

3.0 out of 5 stars HD Fan kit, February 23, 2009
No instructions and the parts do not connect together. The metal rails affix to your hard drive and make a 3 1/2" Hard drive fit into a 5 1/4
slot. My wife's case allowed me to just slide the plastic facing with the fans into the front of the slot where I placed the HD without attaching it to the case. 2nd one I've done this way with no problems. The first one I put in has been running 14 hrs a day for 6 months or so, no problems, this one mounted right over it. Quiet and provide some airflow around drive. When you have seven drives in a case, the more air the better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't install this in my server, November 9, 2007
By K. Bolingbroke (California, USA) - See all my reviews

It claims to fit in any 5.25" bay, but the rails and the fan come in two parts, and your 5.25" bay needs to have an extra set of screw holes or wide slots at the front or you won't be able to screw in both the rails and the fan. The machine I intended to install this on has a pair of short slots that are sufficient for normal 5.25" devices, but will not allow me to attach both the rails and the fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep your drives cool, September 16, 2007
By William Rice (Gainesville, FL) - See all my reviews

I installed a pair of these on a storage server and have been happy with their operation and quality. IF you need some drive rails, why not get them with a pair of fans also?
