The assignment from Mr. Dunlap, head of the photography department, was for each class member to take a series of photographs of the one item in their life that meant the most to them. While others talked about cars or friends, Jason's thoughts were on something entirely different: his Fisher DVD-S1100 DVD player. It was his most prized possession in his entire life. With Dolby Digital (AC-3) and DTS outputs, he enjoyed the best digital presentations Hollywood had to offer in over 500 lines of horizontal resolution. Its slew of trick plays- bookmarking, 2x zoom, angle replay, last memory-put him on the set directing the action. And not only could he watch DVDs, but the unit was compatible with S-VCD, VCD, and CD formats, and had component and S-video outputs, too. Jason snapped away, taking pictures from every conceivable angle. He could hardly wait to take them to class. After seeing the photos, Mr. Dunlap agreed that Fisher was truly something to be prized.

Had the worse stuttering playback on some dual layer DVDs and likes to stutter when playing PIONEER Anime DVDs for some reason. I thought I got a faulty player returned it for another Fisher S1100 & I encountered the same problems with the replacement unit.

As I stated, I cannot and will not recommend this DVD player. It really REALLY blows. Horrible. Refuses to play either of The Mummy/The Mummy Returns DVD's or the Matrix DVD as well. I brought it back after 1 day. I then purchased the Sanyo DWM-370 and it does EVERYTHING that I wanted from a DVD player. Unlike most of the other DVD players out there that offer so-called MP3 player capability, the DWM-370 is the only one I've seen so far that will actually list the Directories/Sub-directories/FULL song names! If you can find the Sanyo # DWM-370, get it before you waste your money on an Apex/Sony/etc that just don't compare. The DWM-370 has Component/S-Video, numerous sound options, video options, zoom, extremely high clarity, etc. I highly recommend the Sanyo # DWM-370

I bought the Fisher S1000, but what it sounds like from the other reviews, they didn't fix any of the problems. First of all, the DVD player doesn't play some DVD's like Charlie's Angel. I had to do some web surfing and found out that if you buy a DVD that can play in more than one country's (Don't ask me why different countries have different codes)DVD player than it won't play on the Fisher DVD player because it only plays Region 1 (USA) DVD's. One would think it would be a good thing to have a DVD you can bring to France and it plays just as well there as in say Germany, buy the Fisher DVD player won't play it.

Another thing is I use it for playing my CD's. However, it won't play any of the CD's I burned on my Laptop. It's very disappointing spending all that time burning a CD when you can't even listen to it on a quality sound system in your home.

The reason I gave it two stars and not one is that it does play most other DVD's. I've only ran into the whole region code problem thing twice and that was when I bought the DVD's (of course I had to bring them back or give them to my mother who's DVD player plays them). And it does also play store bought CD's with no problem.

I can't comment on the picture or sound quality because I have a pretty old TV. So aside from the two problems I mentioned (which are very frustrating for me) it works well. Perhaps, if you don't want to play burned CD's and they don't make many more multi-region discs, it would be a good DVD player.
