5.0 out of 5 stars Another Hit from The Cash Money Crew, December 23, 2000
By Agent Esco (Elk Grove, CA United States) - See all my reviews
At first, I was a little skeptical purchasing this CD because Lil' Wayne was my least favorite of the whole Cash Money Millionaires crew, and the rest of his crew weren't featured on that many songs. However, that view on Lil' Wayne has now changed, and I now am sure that Cash Money is here to stay. "Lights Out" is one of the best Cash Money CD's to date. Wayne shows a variety of styles and beats as he rhymes like Twista and then turn aroung and slow it down for a couple of other tracks. The beats are also tight as ever (aren't they always when Mannie Fresh is producin). Although he talks about most of the same things such as fancy cars, he focuses more on life in some of his other songs and getting through this crazy world. If your a fan, or if you've never really heard a Cash Money CD, still go pick this one up. You'll be impressed...

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best disc to come out of the south, April 19, 2001
By "gaz-l" (Sacramento) - See all my reviews
Contrary to popular belief, rappers from that dirty like Lil Wayne, Silkk the Shocker and even Maaster P are growing as artists, and improving. Some becoming even more intrguing than more talented artists like Jay-Z, Snoop, and Busta Rhymes, who refuse to cahnge. Lights Out features Wayne at his best, and showcases a variety of music.

2.Get of the Corner (8/10)-The hit, and typivcal catchy CM Hook

3.On the Grind (7/10)-While Wayne isn't the best lyracist, he maximizes his voice. In On the Grind, he varies his flow and voice to enject "life" into a tired topic of shippin' keys.

4.Hit It Up (6/10)-Cathcy, but suspect verses will have you waiting for the hook

5.Everything (5)-beat doesn't match wayne's voice, but lyrics about his father are sincere.

6....Wit Me Now(7)-Waynes double-time lyrics will have your adrenaline pumping, but its nothing innovative.

7.Lil One (3)-only truly bad song on the disc. Diolouge between Baby and Wayne is a old subject in hip-hop, and the beat is is to mellow for the subject.

8.Break Me Off (?)-CMR experiments with R&B sounding tune. Jury still out w/ me on this one.

10.Wish Ya Would (7)-Adequate cut, with solid beat

11.Grown Man(8)-Shows Waynes maturity. Talks about growing up and resonsibility while being famous. Wouldn't have found this on the last ablum

12.Shine (10)-Catchy as heck. If kids parents don't like rap, they'll still love this. What makes it good is the on & off beat, so it won't overwhelm new hip-hop fans

13.Jump Jiggy(10)-My summer anthem. Lyrics are monotonus, but its a cruisin' and festive beat and the catchy CMR chorus. Song has been in my head for 2 weeks.

14.Realize (8)- Sounds more like a No Limit cut, but the beat is tight.

15.The Blue (7)- I like this. CMR experiments with blues sound, and I'd like to see more experimentation from them in the future.

16.Let's Go (8)-Typical CMR

17. Biznite(7 1/2)- Tight beat by fresh, with catchy & funny hook

18.Act A A** (6)- Song that really bump in the ride, should be club hit

19. Best lyrical effort, despite tired subjects

Overall, this CMR album has the best and most creative beats. Even though wayne is improving, if your lookin' for inspiring lyrics, go see Talib Kweli or Nas. But Wayne can keep your attention with his voice But for the catchiest hooks ever, pic this up. Word of advise:don't but this for you kid if their easily influenced. I'm tired of seeing kids trying to be little Wayne, and the subject matter on ths disc will hardly steer thm in the right path.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lil Wayne putting Lights Out For All Cash Money Haters, June 4, 2001
Here's the real scoop on Lil Wayne "Lights Out." The album is one of the best Cash Money albums to date. All of his songs is good but here are the songs that stand out and make the album the best:

1. Get Off The Corner - Kinda similar to Tha Block Is Hot but Get off Tha Corner I think is better. Nice background effects during the hook. This song will make you bop your head (10/10)

2. Hit U Up - Nice beat to the song. With the Hot Boyz in the song, it makes the song even more spectacular. Everyone who raps in the song does a good job. (8/10)

3. F**k Wit Me Now - One of my favorites. Lil Wayne makes you get up and dance a little. His lyrics will make you think more of Lil Wayne. He does good rapping in this song. (9/10)

4. Shine - This is another one of my best on this album. I listened to the song about 20 times before I went to the next song. I like the beat but some of the lyrics didn't go right with the beat but it's still a great song (10/10)

5. Jump Jiggy - A goo dance song for all you dancing freaks. The beat of a Spanish guitar. I danced to this song all the way through. Lil Wayne puts it down in this song (8/10)

6. Let's Go - What a song his is. The Big Tymers are the major MVP's in this song but Lil Wayne does his part in the song as well. I like the hook part with Baby and Lil Wayne. (8/10)

Those are the best songs on the album. The other songs are just either average or below average. The most poor song and the only poor song on the album is "Lil One" Nonetheless, I give this album 9/10, an A-. If you're a die hard Lil Wayne/CM fan, you should get this album. Also, get Young Turk's "Young And Thuggin" and Juvenile's "Project English" as well as Hot Boyz "Let 'Em Burn" Peace.
