4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent debut!, June 27, 2001
By A Customer
This was the album that brought echobelly to largescale media attention in the UK with big singles such as "I can't imagine the world without me". The band broke with the wave of Brit-pop bands led by Oasis and Blur, but they quickly showed that they had a distinct set of talents and sounds, not least Sonyas vocals. The album is perhaps their most "pop" album, as it is more bubbly and vivacious than some of the more recent tracks. Yet there are still dark undertones as the themes of racism, and womens subjugation are prevalent in the lyrics. In all of the tracks the vocals soar, demonstrating Sonyas impressive range, and the powerful guitars provide a solid backdrop. The rythm section provide a more challenging and interesting backing than most other Britpop bands ever achieved, and this perhaps explains the continued interest in echobellys work, whilst other bands have faded away. Most importantly the songs are consistently good, with gliding melodies, and a well thought balance between tempo, rythm, and tone. Overall the sound is clean and fresh, definitely a pop album, but harder meanings lie beneath the surface, this is an excellent debut album from a band who continue to mature.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone's Got One, May 24, 2009
By Bjorn Viberg (European Union) - See all my reviews
Everyone's Got One being Echobelly's debut album and their 1994 release sounds a whole lot like Oasis, and Blur. Singles released on this album are "I Can't Imagine The World Without Me", "Bellyache", "Insomniac" and "Close...but". The lyrics have a tendency to be a bit too political at times and that is a bit annoying. But one has to admire such convictions even if one does not agree with them. The booklet is a sham and looks like some friends took the photographs with their private cameras. All the lyrics are included but not chronologically which makes no sense. Overall this is a very strong debut album. 4/5.
