3.0 out of 5 stars A mixed blessing, February 4, 2003
By A Customer
Alright, purely in terms of the songs themselves, you could give this 4 stars. There are a couple of throwaway tracks on here, but most of the discs represent Tubby ON POINT. But when you're talking about Tubby's 70's output, you almost can't go wrong. So the real question is: why get this album? Unless you're a Tubby completist, I'd recommend Dub Gone Crazy, or Dub Like Dirt, from the Blood and Fire label. Without a doubt Trojan records is a reggae cornerstone label, but these CD's look like they're just trying to cash in. Why?

1)Mastering-The music here is great, but the sound here is sub par. I can only figure that Trojan didn't want to put in the $ to remaster these tracks properly. Blood and Fire's stuff from this same era sounds WAAAY better (and with all the little sound effects in dub, you can tell the difference between good and bad mastering), although Blood and Fire often masters from secondary sources like vinyl...

2) The 2 CD set-So you see this and you think--oh, it's a little expensive, but its cheap for a 2 disc set, cuzz it must have twice the music on it. Not so fast. These 2 discs clock in together at around 85 minutes, and like I said, there are at least 3 tracks of fat that could be trimmed off this. In other words, it looks like Trojan did the least it could to make what could be a one CD collection into a 2 disc set to make a little more $--weak!

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic!, March 15, 2001
This CD will provide you with hours of fine audio pleasure. If you are not too expert in the musical genre called 'dub' I think this 2 CD set will serve as an excellent introduction. Lots of innovative sounds here for music produced in early to mid 70s. Pop the discs into your CD carousel and hit the random button for a positive mindframe adjustment.
