Missing tracks, but still better than "Beautiful Ballads", December 19, 2003
This is actually more like a 4.5, and here's why:Of the two widely recognized Isley Brothers slow jam compilations out - this one and 1994's "Beautiful Ballads" - both albums have monumental oversights. One record (this one) is missing "Choosey Lover" and "Don't Say Goodnight"; the other record ("Ballads") is missing their best slow jam and one of the best slow jams ever, "Sensuality", as well as "Groove With You" and "For the Love of You", while replacing it with stuff like "Caravan of Love". And NEITHER album has "Let Me Down Easy", but since that's more of a break-up song, you can sort of forgive the oversight. Somewhere between these two albums is the best slow jam tape ever made. Not that this one doesn't deserve 4.5 or even 5 stars despite this. The other CD was lacking, in that it had items on it that weren't exactly ballad-like to compensate(!) for the above omissions. This one is still a solid, 100% CD in and of itself that you never have to hit the "Next Track" button on. it doesn't break mood, doesn't insert a jumpy dance groove in the middle of the rotation...it's exactly what it says it is and is exactly the way you want it to be. It's practically been laid out with the ebb and flow of a night with your lover in mind. Of the two albums, this one is superior, despite its own grievous ommissions.

One-Note Wonders, March 7, 2003
Some of the best and most distinctive love music ever. As soon as their signature single synthesizer (try saying that three times fast) note starts sliding velvet-slowly up and down, you know you're in the hands of the masters. You know you can sit back and just enjoy -- no need to pay attention to their wonderful, intricate arrangements, just enjoy. However, there are far too many of their best love songs missing here. Without even pausing, I can come up with "Just Like This," "Don't Say Goodnight (it's time for love)," "Caravan Of Love," "Make Ya Body Sing," "Choosey Lover," and "Let Me Down Easy." Of those, the only title that could be argued against is "Just Like This," but only because of its slightly-veiled reference to ... well ... a certain non-standard naughty activity. So if I'm complaining, why the five stars? Simply because it is actually a Federal offense to rate anything by the Isley Brothers at anything less than five stars. Look it up.

I was born in 1977........, August 4, 2005
I was too young to remember these amazing songs, but as I got older and started listening to more and more R&B I started feeling what music was all about, groups like Jodeci, dru hill, blackstreet artists like aaron hall, R. kelly. I decided to go back in time and listen to some of R&B's golden era, and man was the trip worth it! not only are the isley brothers brilliant musicians, they are some of the best ever, it's amazing how many tracks sound familiar to me, and why that is? well because it seems like just about every new artists in the last 10 years or so has sample music from the isley brothers. and I don't blame them, this cd is just an amazing work of art and it's worth the price and more.
