Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Jennifer Lopez finds herself in an unlikely love triangle as San Francisco's most sought-after wedding planner. The romantic comedy does not include any of Lopez's music on the soundtrack, but it does feature a collection of pop-lite tracks that her fans may find equally thrilling. Composer Mervyn Warren's score is featured at the album's end, but what should keep Lopez fans interested are the contributions of 20-year-old Jessica Riddle and Jessica Sheely, who each take a page from the modern romantic pop-song playbook. Lisa Stansfield handles the Goffin-King composition "Somewhere My Baby Waits for Me." Sister Hazel chime in with their harmonious rock on "We'll Find It," which is followed up by Australia's Mishelle Bradford-Jones's self-penned "Life Is What You Make It," an empowerment anthem worthy of Dawson's Creek. Dan Finnerty remakes the 1960s hit "A Groovy Kind of Love." And for pure nostalgia, both John Denver and Olivia Newton-John are featured with hits that graced AM radio 25 years ago. --Rob O'Connor

4.0 out of 5 stars The Wedding Planner Soundtrack, January 27, 2001
After seeing Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey in THE WEDDING PLANNER, I wanted to get the soundtrack. (The movie is great!) My first thought on this soundtrack is that it could have been better... But it is cute and whimsical with the some new and old remakes mixed in. There are three songs (Track #2, 6, 7) that are featured that are not in the movie and two songs (Track #8, 13) that has different versions than from the movie. And, there are no Jennifer Lopez songs on this CD. (Which is noted on the back of the CD to let the audience know. Maybe J.Lo didn't want to deter her audience from her newly released CD.) But over all, the cute popsy songs do this movie justice. It's good Saturday morning listening music and it's upbeat and happy enough. There are quite a few new and up and coming female singers like Jessical Riddle and Jessica Sheely that contribute to this soundtrack- which I thought was pretty good. I also liked Lisa Stanfield's version of "Someday My Baby Waits For me" and Dan Finnerty's "A Groovy Kind of Love". The movie's theme music composed by Mervyn Warren is sweet and romantic and is featured at the end of the CD. (Worth listening to.) Some of the songs on this CD reminded a bit of the Dawson's Creek soundtrack but overall a great CD to listen to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great winter-time album for romantic young women, November 19, 2002
By small-towngirl (Small town USA) - See all my reviews
If J Lo.'s "Wedding Planner" movie was the ideal Valentine's Day girls night (or afternoon) out movie, then this soundtrack is the perfect February pick-me-up from the post-V. Day winter blahs of the unattached and/or pining away. The songs are very female-oriented, romantic, and usually filled with optimistic longing.

My favorite tracks are the ones like these --

"Somewhere My Baby Waits for Me" - my personal favorite, very "sweep-you-off-your-feet" music and comforting hopeful words for any unattached hopeless romantic.

"Adore You" - pop-folksy song that in any other context might annoy me, but on this CD it's perfect!

"I Can't Help Myself" - a decadently girly crush song. Makes you think of pink candy hearts and nail polish to match!

"We'll Find It" - an upbeat, fun, hopeful song that gives a small shot of energy to the slower pace of the CD

"Plan on Forever" - not the same version as used in the film, but still a great song. I think it would have been even better, though, if J. Lo. had performed it.

I also love the "Garden Conversation" love theme - very "hollywood romantic comedy" music, glittery, lots of strings, sweet melody, etc. And I love "Steve and Mary's Tango". The scene in the movie is great, and I don't know about you, but I find tango music to be intense and sensual and it somehow manages to fit together on this album nicely.

Now I can't say I listen too much to the "Wedding song trilogy" (I honestly love you, annie's song, and a groovy kind of love) that often at all, but they are nice to have on there for novelty's sake!

Overall, I recommend this CD, but be forewarned -- if you're not of the variety of unattached/pining hopeless romantic female with a soft spot for weddings and romantic comedies, you may not understand quite why I think so highly of it! If you are, however, be prepared to snap out of your blues and keep those eyes peeled for your prince charming....for "one fine day, you'll turn around and there he will be......"

4.0 out of 5 stars This Soundtrack is amazing!!, January 29, 2001

I love this soundtrack almost as much as I loved the movie! The only thing that I would have liked better on the soundtrack is some Jennifer Lopez songs, but other than that, it is wonderful! GO buy it, and see the movie!
