Editorial Reviews

Product Description

The region of Kermanshahan within the province of Kurdistan has a very distinct and ancient culture. Music is held in high esteem in this territory and the depth and diversity of the music make this region one of the most important within the musicology of Iran. Certain unique qualities of the tanbur music of Kermanshahan, such as those found in the intervals, rhythms, and melodic cycles, lend support to the view that this music bears close resemblance to the ancient music of Iran.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!, November 24, 2005
By Rizgar (Sweden) - See all my reviews

This is absolutely one of Muradî's best albums! It entres you into a magical world of sufi contemplation and gnosis.

The religious music of the Kurdish Yarsanî cult is considered one of the most ancient and deep-rooted musical traditions in the world. Muradî plays this music with great depth and virtiosity, and is undoubtedly the greatest master (Mamoste) to represent this authentic tradition.

Regreatabely, Muradî and the tradition he represents are not known enough among Kurds outside Iranian Kurdistan.. Anyway, I hope that these recordings will help them to get to know this tradition and learn it better!

4.0 out of 5 stars Moradi and Hadadi do it again, April 18, 2001
By A Customer
Thisi is the second album from the magical duo. After hearing "Fire of Passion" i thought these two could not record anything better then that album. I was proven wrong after hearing a lvie performance of this album and buying it. Moradi has shown everyone that he is truly the master of the Tanbur. Pejman is also magnificent on Tonbak. Hadadi is not your typical traditional drummer, he is the most innovative drummer i've heard. The new techniques he uses on the tombak are controversialy exceptional. THis album is a must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, September 1, 2008
I'll start this review by making it clear: I don't usually listen to 'world music'. The majority of my CD collection consists of metal CD's - a genre which differentiates itself from most other western musical styles in its fondness for the Phrygian mode.

A few years ago I decided to browse the internet in search of 'world music' which made use of this phrygian sound. I trawled through the music of the mediterranean, the Middle East, Central Asia, India and North/East Africa. And by far the best music I discovered was by Ali Akbar Moradi.

Little did I know at the time that the phrygian mode is known as 'The Kurdish Mode' in Arabic (well that's what Wikipedia tells me anyway). Chances are this music doesn't fit any of the definition of any traditional western musical modes - but it sure does sound good to these ears! If you enjoy music of the near east, or are an open minded metal head like myself you may also enjoy this CD.
