I love this CD. All the hit's this Diva has belted over the years, in one package. I love the ladies of song that can hold their own. Shirley does more than that. She holds the world in her hands when she graces any song or stage with her golden voice, and presence.

Next to Judy Garland, Shirley stands as one of the greatest singers of our time.

Dame Shirley Bassey is without doubt one of the finest and most successful female entertainers of all time. Basse the Belter has set her mark on music predominantly because of her great voice and amazing skills as a performer, and for the first time all of her greatest hits are assembled on one CD. There's certainly not a lack of Bassey collections on the market, but this one has to be the finest assembling all of her greatest from her early years "As I Love You", I (Who Have Nothing), Climb Every Mountain, to her comeback in the 90's with, History Repeating. Bassey was already famous in most of the world before she performed the title track from Ian Flemming's 007 movie, Goldfinger, but the song really made America take notice. Her post Goldfinger career was even more successful than before, she scored several of Top 10 hit singles with: Never, Never, Never, George Harrison's "Something", Big Spender and For All We Know. The 70's was without doubt her most successful and most productive decade. In 1972 she frequently attended the legendary Carnegie Hall (resulting in a fabulous live recording), she was even asked to perform two more Bond themes (the only singer to do so) with the highly successful, Diamonds Are Forever and the atmospheric, Moonraker. Today, looking back, Shirley was a singular talent and she knew how to make good use of it, in a world were black singers were disregarded Bassey managed to break the cycle and make a name for herself.

Wow -- I'd never really taken Shirley Bassey seriously until I listened to this album. Sexy, raunchy, knowing, flaunting ... that's Shirley! The remixes are brilliant -- Propellerheads, AwayTEAM & Wild Oscar must have been so inspired by her outrageous interpretive style, because the mixes they created fully support and do not diminish or dominate. The remix of the Love Story theme is forceful yet romantic -- the real gem of the album. Overall, the superb remastering on the original selections makes the 60's & 70's orchestrations even more dreamy and intensifies the powerful vocals.
