5.0 out of 5 stars Blown away, again, October 7, 2004
By Mathieu Perreault (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
Daniel Bélanger has always brought something fresh and original by the way of his lyrics and melodies. This time around, he went in a totally in another direction.

The lyrics are still excellent, as usual, although sometimes, it is a lot more direct than the last three albums, which is not a bad thing in any way. Don't worry, you'll still have to use your head and imagination. The music is where the big change happened. DO NOT expect anything like his previous albums. It's a lot more techno or rock depending of the mood of the song, but it is incredible. Everything goes so well together. Because the whole album is one big story (you go through 10 rounds of a boxing match and I won't tell you who wins ;-), I actually enjoy sitting and just listening the whole album without doing anything else.

He's a unique artist and it shows in his work. As long you don't expect the usual, you might be pleasantly surprised by this great album. I was, and more. At least, listen to the extracts on his website. Album of the year in my book.

2.0 out of 5 stars not quite what I was expecting, July 13, 2004
By A Customer
I originally bought one of Daniel's previous albums (the title had 'insomniac' in it). the previous album was mostly acoustic with melodic vocals. I bought it for my wife. she loved it. Next year, I purchased deflaboxe and the CD got thrown back at me. This album was NOTHING like the previous album I had purchased for her. so if you are like me and buying this album based on his previous work, think again. he took a completely different style with this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Agressive, Wild, Experimental & Honnest poetry, March 11, 2004
By "cote_pierre" (Sherbrooke, Qc., Canada) - See all my reviews
In this experimental album, Bélanger shows his own dark & hidden garden. Obviously describing his fights against a depressive lifestyle and his deepest reflexions in his previous album (Rêver Mieux - wich totally impressed me), he comes back with an exclusive musical and lyrical style mostly expressing how he concieves life as a constant fight (analogy: boxe). All songs bearing numbers instead of titles, he lets listners use their intelligence & imagination in order to "feel" the music his own way.
One of the most impressive album from Quebec this year.
I give 5 stars and two thumbs up.
