5.0 out of 5 stars Majestic goth from reformed, maturing Aussies, February 8, 2002
By erica breyer (chicago,il) - See all my reviews
After countless covers,a long stint as a quasi-Joy Division cover band, these guys started to shrug those comparisons aside with a relatively new singer (was hired into the group on "This Quiet Earth").Now it seems that comparison to JD is well behind them, having refined their sound with a more rocking goth feel (along the lines of Mission UK and old The Cult) and a slight electronic feel to keep it current (though this band wears classic goth influence like a tattoo, thankfully). The Death in June influence is still there, but now it's a bit lessened. To compare them with anyone,I would say DIJ,Clan of Xynox, and a little bit of Fields of the Nephilim guitarwise. The lyrics on most of the songs still lack weight, but I still give the band credit on maturing with them. "King of Terror" and "An Act of Fate" show they can be deep and complex,so maybe the simplicity on a few of the songs is intentional. Those two, along with "Blue Snow,Red Rain" are their best ones on here. I do like "This Quiet Earth" a little better, but the maturity is evident. As for the old singer,I could care less.He can go and be a emotionless Ian Curtis clone somewhere else. Also recommended are Clan of Xymox,London After Midnight,Joy Division,Death in June,The Swans, and anything on Metropolis Records.

4.0 out of 5 stars Forever Falling, December 7, 2005
Ikon finally reformed to comprise of a full band with their most clever and original songs yet to come. The sound is precise and refined. Production is clean, much precision through-out. This almost sounds nothing like anything the band had done prior. A real drummer brings more emotion to the back drop. While emtionally it hits all the right spots, the album replaces passionate coldness with tender heat. Infact, it is so structured musically, that it replaces chaos with conformity. Brilliant album, better is yet to come...

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent light goth, February 5, 2002
By Stephen Kozle (Brighton, MI USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
IKON's latest CD is a good effort consisting of rather poppy goth influenced songs. The drawback here is that while all of the songs are independently good, they all sound somewhat similar. If the similarity between tracks doesn't bother you, then I reccommend this disc.

If you like this CD, chances are that you'll also enjoy Bella Morte and the Cruxshadows.
