Terry Evans is one of the most soulful male singers around today. Besides adding vocal accompaniment to songs by Ry Cooder, John Fogerty, John Lee Hooker, Rosanne Cash, Boz Scaggs, Joan Armatrading, Dave Alvin, Burton Cummings, Maria Muldaur, Pops Stapes, Van Dyke Parks, and even some guitar work to Marvin Gaye's live album, Evans has put his own personal style on four solo albums of his own. Evans began his music career as a duo, with his partner Bobby King, performing soul and gospel songs. The pair released a couple of albums and eventually teamed up with Ry Cooder to provide backing vocals on several albums and in his live band. Cooder & Evans have continued to work together, and Terry even went on to sing lead on the Crossroads movie soundtrack album.

The new album is titled Mississippi Magic because Terry's style is rooted in the Mississippi Delta Blues, and Terry was happy with the 2-track spontaneity of the recordings. All tracks were recorded live direct to the two track Sony Direct Stream Digital System.

I heard the song "You Better Get Your Sh** Together" and was struck with a Mississippi delta bluesman that had, on most cuts on this CD, a blues feel that easily fits also the groove of the South Carolina state dance, the shag. Well, I guess I told my age on that one, but for 40 years I have enjoyed the blues, but this man revitalizes anyone's interest and feel for the blues, even if you do not know how to dance the shag. This CD is now in my top 10 of modern blues men...I am playing the heck out of it.
