5.0 out of 5 stars Have I seen a better movie? I think not., February 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Looking [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Just Looking, this hilarious movie, written by Marshall Karp, and directed by Jason Alexander(Seinfeld, Pretty Woman, Rocky and Bulwinkle) is a beautiful portrayal of life in the Fifties. They nailed every detail, from the cars to the mentioning of certain events, to the Brill Cream in the hair. The movie is about this boy, Lenny, who is 14, played by Ryan Merriman, and his adventures during one memorable summer. In the Fifties, it was very taboo to ask your parents about sex, and other things of the nature so you found out other ways. His mother, played by the incredible Patti LuPone and his step-father played brilliantly by Richard Licata send Lenny off for the summer to live with his aunt and uncle. This is where he meets his best friend John, played by the lovable and talented Joseph Franquinha. John, along with his friends Barbara and Alice welcome Lenny into their "club" and teach him a thing or two. The adventures they encounter are ones he won't forget for a long time to come. This "coming of age" movie, is not only funny, but heart warming and smartly written and directed. Jason Alexander's movie is one that I hope YOU don't forget for a long time to come as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars very trouching movie, December 26, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Just Looking [VHS] (VHS Tape)
like other reviews have said, i caught this while skimming through the movie channels. unfortunately, i didn't get to see the beginning - i just caught on that the movie was about this kid wanting to know about sex. that just sparked my attention, but the story line of the movie itself drew me in.
it's a wonderful movie with great acting, especially for the part of lenny. the movie touches on some subjects that some people could consider "disturbing", but we all know thats a part of life and part of learning about the birds and the bees. some aspects just take you by surprise.
definately would keep true to the guidelines of the R rating, though. if youre past youre awkward pubity years, this movie will definately take you back to how you were feeling back then.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT COMING OF AGE MOVIE!!, February 4, 2002
By John D. Seneca (PLAQUEMINE, LOUISIANA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I recently bought this video used from a rental shop. Though I had never heard of it-nor seen it, I thought I'd give it a shot!
I was very pleased with my decision after viewing it.
It was a very funny and heartwarming story that takes place in the 1950's. It re-creates that time and place quite well!
The actors were very good and the story was also. It teaches us about life, love, sex and of course, married life!
Most importantly, it was a wonderful movie with a blend of comedy and a touch of drama. Both make for a great film!
I highly recommend that you see it if you haven't already!
