Biography

The music of X-Japan is an eclectic mixture. The band's repertoire ranged from soft and tearful ballads like "Crucify My Love" and "Endless Rain" to more shocking and hard-driving speed metal numbers such as "Rusty Nail" and the 12-minute "Rose of Pain." Formed in Japan in 1982 as simply X, the group lengthened its name within several years, partly to reflect a change of style that was beginning… Read more in Amazon's X JAPAN Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the best from the best, November 22, 2003
By A Customer
When i first heard of X Japan i only knew about 4 songs so i decided to buy this album ,and it was the best choice i've ever made! X Japan is a visual rock band famous for Forever Love (ending theme song for the anime X) this cd is nearly perfect i've listened to it over 100 times!

World Anthem [Live]: 7.5/10 a live version of world anthem, it sounds like an opening to one of their live concerts.overall its ok. maybe one of the boring tracks on the 2-disc set.

i'll kill you 9.5/10 Their very fisrt song released back in '84 and its still good. A fast paced metal song, the guitar and drum work is awsome. One of my favorite songs on the cd.

Blue Blood [Live] 9/10 a live version of their hardcore drum kicking song Blue Blood! The live version in my opinion is better then the original. Yoshiki's drum work is great as always and Hide's guitar smashs through the roof. Very cool song.

Rusty Nail 10/10 One of my favorite songs of all time. Its a very interesting song, great guitar and vocals and keyboards and great everything. although it is not fast paced it is still great! 10/10 for this masterpiece

Say Anything [Live Piano Shoterned Version] 7/10 Probably the only track on the cd that is disappointing. it is still good since it is Say Anythingn but it is this version is only 3 minutes long. i would much rather have the whole thing

Vanishing Love 8.5/10 a very fast-paced song perhaps more hardcore than blue blood. although i don't listen to this track much it is still a good song a must have for any metal fan.

Tears 10/10 My second favorite ballad of all time. A very powerful and emtional song. Nothing could compare to the sadness of which compelled yoshiki to write this song. Admist the sadness this is one of the greatest songs of all time

Art of Life [Radio Edit] 9/10 Most of X Japan's longest songs are about 8 to 12 minutes which, as apose to the American radio, the Japenese radio had no probelm playing them...but the original Art of Life was nearly 30 minutes long! so they had to cut it. The radio edit is actually the last 5 minutes of the orginal song its still good but the original version is better.

Kurenai (English Version) 9/10 A great song compelling slow then powerful. great vocals, powerful guitars. it is one of their best songs, a favorite to any X Japan fan

Stab Me In The Back [Live] 9.5/10 This live version is awsome! Yoshiki's drumming goes threw the fricken roof and Hide lands (in my opinion) his best guitar solo (next to Forver Love).

Standing Sex [Live] 10/10 Probably my favorite metal song by X Japan this Live version is 10 times better than the original. the Guitar work is KICK ASS!!

Dahlia: 9.5/10 An interesting blend of guitar, drums , Synthesizers, and vocals. fast paced and nothing short of awsome. another one of my favorites.
[Disc 2]
Weekend [Live] 9/10 This Live version is much better than the original very good.

Sadistic Desire 10/10 This is a very very cool track. begins with a wicked scream and moves to some nice guitar and drum work. probably my favorite song on disc 2.

Endless Rain [Live] 8.5/10 This live version is pretty good the guitar solo gets better. Only probelm i have with this track is that the last 3-4 minutes are the fans singing the chorus which is nice for the first few times but after 3 minutes of it, it gets pretty boring but other than that its a good track.

Forever Love 10/10 My Favorite Love Ballad of all time. Powerful, emtional, beautiful piano, With the best 1-minute guitar solo i've ever heard in my whole life. This track alone is enough to buy this cd. I wish i could give it more than 10/10 though.

Orgasm [Live Extended] 9.5/10 A damn good version of Orgasm. I personally have no probelm with it but, as apose to 3 minutes it gets extended to 15 minutes. Some fans might find this track boring but i like it, nothing i find wrong with it.

X[Live] 9/10 X Japan's theme song the live version is awsome. the guitart work is kick ass... enough said.

The Last Song 9.5/10 Their last song proof that X Japan was over ;-( Interesting emtional song. Toshi and Yoshiki vocals make a great team on this song.

Overall rating 9.9/10

To sum this review up if you love X Japan just buy this CD. Your love the Live versions of your favorite songs. ~end~

5.0 out of 5 stars There are few few albums better than this, January 30, 2005
A Kid's Review
I am a little italian boy, i listen x japan since i was 9, i am not crazy this band is fantastic, they are great, i got this cd that is fantastic. Their music is deep energy, i advice you to buy this cd, please if you are looking for a great cd, don't buy cds from bands like U2, RHCP or Keane; I think that until now there are only three or four cds better than perfect best (Appetite for destruction, master of puppets, alive I and alive II). Moreover people, especially those who don't know about japanese bands, they must know that x-japan is a legend like KISS...
