5.0 out of 5 stars Jazzie B and JD make a great collaborative pair, September 24, 2001
By A Customer
In 1993, James Brown completed "Universal James" and merged his traditional beats with soul and hip-hop. The single Can't Get Any Harder made it to #59 on the UK charts and very little of this album was embraced by the US population. Soul II Soul's Jazzie B co-produced this CD lending his trademark funky beats to this project. Although purist fans of hip-hop and funk will think this album is a watered down version of both, it still has very good musical moments. The problem is that it covers a lot of ground and none of it thoroughly. Basically, the first four songs are for dance, and they're what make this CD a worthwhile investment. The remaining songs are more geared towards laid back listening. Two standout dance tracks are "Watch Me," and "Can't Get Any Harder." It is very hard to stay seated when these two tunes comes on. I liked this CD regardless of all the criticism it received. It has its funky moments and those moments are quite good.
