Awesome!, June 22, 2001
By A Customer
I knew I had a good thing when I started this game up and pressing the launch button after I installed it. The reason is, is because right before the game starts in the top left hand corner of my screen a little box came up that said "Prism 3D Engine". This is the same engine that was used to make "Shark: Hunting The Great White." If you have played "Shark" you'll know why I was excited about the Prism 3D engine. It's awesome. Let's start with the graphics. They are great. I wasn't expecting them to be this good. As you walk through a house or office building you really feel like you are walking through smoke. The rooms are filled with gray smoke. As you put out the fires more smoke comes up. You can see the light from the fire around the corner flashing on the wall before you even see a fire. One time I was in a big office building and I couldn't find the next room with a fire, then I looked up at the ceiling and saw orange light flashing on it, I followed it and found the doorway to the room. That was cool. The sounds are great but nothing spectacular, sound of fire or your fireman coughing as he inhales smoke. The music is rockish and fits the game very well and is actually quite good. ... The gameplay. This game is played from the first person view. You will fight fires and rescue victims in homes, office buildings, and highway wrecks. To fight these fires you get, the truck hose which has unlimited water, foam hose which is limited, fire extinguisher which is unlimted also, first aid kit, and oxygen, also limited. There are three kinds of fires, Alpha, the easiest kind and you can put that out with the regular truck hose, Bravo, which you have to use the foam hose on to put it out, and Charlie, which are electrical fires and you have to find the fuse box and turn off the power before you can put these out. The game consists of moving room to room putting out fires and rescuing victims. Sound fun? Nope. But it is fun! I love running through a smoke filled home putting out these fires and rescuing the people. It's different from fraggin people all over the place like in other games. One thing that I think would turn people off from this game is the timer. I hate timers in video games. This bugged me at first because 98 percent of the time you lose a mission, it's not becaused you died, it's because you ran out of time. But then I thought, real life firefighters have a short period of time to put a fire out as well. So now I don't mind the timer so much. I wish you could have been able to use an ax to chop doors down or to move debris out of the way but all the doors are unlocked, no debris, so no ax, but oh well. Maybe in a sequel??? Overall this is a great game. I love it and have much fun with it. It's not deep or action packed but good fun. There is something koo about saving people's lives. Get it!
