Biography

Tupac Shakur was one of the most popular and influential hip-hop stars of the 90s. His murder in 1996, fuelled by a building rivalry between East Coast and West Coast hip-hop stars, shocked America, and has still never been solved. When rival the Notorious B.I.G. was murdered six months later, the biggest murder mystery of the decade took another twist.

Tupac had a tough upbringing: his family and… Read more in Amazon's 2Pac Store

Editorial Reviews

R U still down for more? More prolific than ever, the sadly departed Tupac reemerges with yet another compilation of demos, unfinished thoughts, and songs even he probably didn't like. Until the End of Time chronicles the fruitful Makaveli period of Pac's career, shortly before his untimely slaying. One of Tupac's greatest assets was the way he reveled in his own contradictions, the way he'd drop an uplifting track like "Keep Ya Head Up" in the middle of a hardcore gangsta album. Despite moments like the pensive "Until the End of Time" or "Letter 2 My Unborn," an overwhelming majority of Until is straight thug life. He's a masterful narrator ("Ballad of a Dead Soulja," "Last Ones Left"), but over the course of one-and-a-half hours the thugisms get monotonous, especially given the number of songs that appear twice. The most intriguing moments of Until are the odd references--to his own death, to a young Jay-Z, to the then-unknown phrase "Bling Bling." An album strictly for die-hards. --Hua Hsu

5.0 out of 5 stars 2Pac lives!, April 8, 2001
Don't misunderstand. This is not a "2Pac faked his own death" writing. I do, in fact find it amazing that an albulm released over 5 years after the man's death could be so on-point. Honestly, most music recorded this year, isn't up to today's standards, but 2Pac somehow...transcends time?...is timeless?

Anyway, I would have given this collection 6 stars if possible. Only because I gave All Eyez On Me 5 stars, and I think this one is far better. This is 2Pac in his prime...2Pac at his best.

According to the CD insert, this one was recorded during his Makaveli period, but the moods of the songs seem to span his carrer. While there are the tracks like M.O.B. that could have been on Makaveli or Thug N U Thug N Me that has All Eyez On Me written all over it, you've also got songs like Everything They Owe, which sings of restitution for misdeeds visited upon blacks in America, that are 2Pac at his most militant...2Pacalypse Now.

It's important to understand that this IS NOT a collection of songs that didn't make his previous albulms. Until The End Of Time is an unreleased albulm, on par with 2Pac's best recordings.

Poetic, relevant, good music.

Whether he's actually dead or not can be debated on and on. But you cannot question the fact that his words will live on forever.

Remember me as an outcast outlaw,
Another albulm out, that's what I'm about, more,
Gettin' raw 'til the day I see my casket,
Burried as a G, while the whole world remembers me,
Until the end of time.

-2Pac

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!, March 28, 2001
I was so excited to hear about this release back in January, and from then on, I was counting down the days to March 27th. Yet on the way to the music store yesterday, I had butterflies in my stomach. I kept thinking, "What if it's not all I hoped it to be?" Well, it is everything I hoped it would be and more.

If you're a Tupac fan and you're just a little skeptical at buying this album, DON'T BE. Each song is wonderful. And the songs are from his Makaveli days, so you can be sure to expect his subliminal messages about still being alive. It's the longest Tupac album yet, but you need not worry. Unlike R U Still Down, Until The End Of Time is quality over quantity.

The best songs are Ballad Of A Dead Soulja, Letter 2 My Unborn, Happy home, All Out (awesome beat), N***** Nature Remix, When Thugz Cry, Words 2 My First Born, Until The End Of Time RP Remix and finally the Let Em Have It Remix, which is destined to become a 2Pac classic. Terrific party track.

If you consider yourself a true Tupac fan, you've got to pick this album up. It was the best idea in the world for Afeni Shakur to allow Death Row to work on Until The End Of Time with her and her crew. This is the best posthumous Tupac release so far; yes, I even like this better than Makaveli - The 7 Day Theory. So in essence, it's the best Pac release since All Eyez On Me. Until The End Of Time is an outstanding masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Until The End Of Time..., March 27, 2001
This album is the fourth album of new material released by 2pac, and surprisingly it is easier to compare it to albums he released when he was alive than his latest posthumous releases. It seems to be somewhere between Makaveli and All Eyez on Me. To those of you who may have been dissapointed by the posthumous releases of 2Pac or other artists, you will find no such disappointment here.

Most of the tracks have been remixed from their original counterparts and bootegged versions, but most are for the better because of it. This is a true 2Pac album, unlike Still I Rise which was a 2Pac + Outlawz albulm, and with two discs of material there is no shortage of 2Pac.

Some of the best tracks on the CD are: Ballad of a dead soulja, until the end of time, letter to my unborn, when thugs cry, and let em have it. 2Pacs lyrical ability is showcased very well in this package. I reccomend this to anyone interested in 2Pac, either a long-time fan or first time listener. This new album will not dissapoint you.

I am very satisfied. The only thing I had a problem with was some of the censoring of some of 2Pac's lyrics, although it only happened a few times throughout the entire album. Also, some of the tracks were dramatically altered from what 2pac had intended (as seen in unreleased versions). Such tracks are Closest Road Dogs and When Thugz Cry. Closest road dogs was a duet with Big Syke, not a solo song. When Thugz Cry had a really good chorus that was not included in the final cut. However, these are only minor issues, and both of those songs still sound great. This is a great rap album. Buy it and be amazed.
