Biography

Sir Cliff Richard is a British institution, one of the biggest-selling pop stars ever in the UK with a popularity that has endured since the 1950s. His good nature has made him a figure of fun for some, and critics have never been fans of his music, but to adoring older ladies and tennis fans, Sir Cliff is an English icon to be proud of.

Before the Beatles, Cliff Richard was the biggest star of… Read more in Amazon's Cliff Richard Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Cliff's notes, August 9, 2001

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
England's Dick Clark (Richard's recording career predates the BEATLES!) was still looking pretty spry and youthful back in the early 80's when he briefly threw his hat into the "New Wave" ring. "Wired For Sound", together with the previous LP "I'm No Hero" actually represents a "second wind" of sorts for the perennial British rocker, already a good twenty-odd years into the music biz at that time. Crisp production and great vocals from Sir Cliff (yes, he's been knighted...are there any British rock singers left who HAVEN'T been?) are the highlights of this set of amiable pop-rock. Richard does some interesting covers, most notably Wreckless Eric's "Broken Doll". Most people (outside of England that is) probably associate Cliff Richard mostly with his pompadoured, early 60's teen idol period, so it is good to see this worthy era of Richard's work getting the re-appraisal and remastering treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first vinyl I ever owned, August 4, 2005

Yes, my opinion is somewhat biased. The year was 1982 and I was in garde 8 and in love with this album. I listen to this from time to time. It's not a classic, but its an excellent and enjoyable album. My rating is more sentimental and most Cliff fans would probably give it 3.5 stars. On a different note I find it interesting that Sir Cliff is virtually unknown in Canada, where I live now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Back to mediocrity
Cliff's resurgence was fading when this album was released. Buy any of the other recently re-mastered, reissued albums before this. This album seems silly and awkward. Read more
