3.0 out of 5 stars Good quality radio considering the low price tag, September 29, 2002
By Jeffrey Stanley (Wichita, KS United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This raido is pretty good for what I paid for it .. The reception is good to fair and works well with strong signals. Weak stations and wireless health club "cardio theatre" systems are spotty. The headphones would not stay in my ears so I had to use another set I already owned. The unit has a belt clip and has changable face plates which are basicly useless. The belt clip does not hold on very tight, and the battery door can come open when using this raido while running or other jarring exercises. The digital tuner is nice and it does a good job of scanning for stations. The raido allows 10 presets and the largest button on the radio is for switching between these presets, so it is easy to tune in your favorite station by touch. The battery life is very good. I have owned the radio for 6 months now and there have been no problems or loss of performance. Buy this one if you want a decent radio for an affordable price, but spend a little more and get a little better one if you can afford it, especially if you are a runner.

1.0 out of 5 stars Keep your receipt, October 1, 2002
By Caesar 62 (Minnesota, USA) - See all my reviews
I had purchased this as an inexpensive radio to use at the health club. It was able to successfully pick up the signal from transmitters located several yards away, which was all that I needed. Sadly, about the fifth time I tried to use it I was unable to change stations, then silence. Either the unit died or battery life is less than two and a half hours, neither of which were acceptable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised, January 31, 2003
By A Customer
After reading the previous 4 negative reviews, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Emerson HR2001. I purchased it to replace my yellow Sony Sports Walkman SRF-M78 with armband. I was looking for something that is smaller, has better reception, and includes a belt clip. The problems that I have with the Sony Walkman are: 1) it picks up the static from the treadmills that I use at the gym, 2) the armband is uncomfortable and unwieldy, 3) it lacks an autoseek tuner, 4) it is rather bulky, and 5) it lacks a bass boost capability. By constrast, the Emerson HR2001 does not pick up the treadmill static, has a functional and convenient belt clip, has an autoseek capability, is small and light, and has a bass boost switch. I like the nice ergonomic design with a large central button which quickly cycles through the stations in memory. It has a lock button, but unlike my Sony, inadvertent changing of stations is not a problem. The battery life issue that one reviewer mentioned is also not a problem. There are a few downsides: 1) the reception can always be better, 2) the headphones are rather cheap, and 3) there is no clock. The changeable faceplates are a nice marketing tool but is really not relevant. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase. The price is right and the quality is much better than expected.
