Product Description

Editorial Review

LeapPad's multisensory, experiential interface makes kids--even those who aren't old enough for school--want to read with a vengeance. With Leap's Friends from A to Z, kids see, hear, say, and touch throughout the story, enhancing oral, vocabulary, and phonics lessons given throughout the book. At the same time, the sprightly Leap helps his friends correctly identify and sound out alphabet letters.

It's simple to use (just insert the cartridge and book into a LeapPad, and use the attached stylus to hear information), but this system is an innovative technology that provides entertaining, effective learning, designed by a Stanford-trained reading expert. The system has also been credited with the TMA's Educational Toy of the Year and People's Choice awards.

Two notes: Make sure the LeapPad book you get is appropriate for the child's educational level, and know that some LeapBooks (like this one) work on both LeapPad and LeapPad Pro, but some only work with one system. --Diane Beall

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst of the LeapFrog books so far, May 10, 2002

I just bought the LeapPad for my daughter. While many of the books have lots of varied activities on each page, this one was a real disappointment. The activity is exactly the same on each page (one for each letter of the alphabet) and consists of just finding the letters that surround the picture of an animal on each page. Any 2 or 3-year old could do it, and it gets very tiresome for all 26 letters. Skip this one!

I like the Leap Pad and I like most of the Leap Pad books we have. If I had all of the other Leap Pad books that were directed towards my son, I'd consider getting this one. However, this is not one I'd put on my must have list.

It is not a horrible book, however I don't find it educational nor do I think it's particularly fun.

My little three year old is really getting into doing his leap pad and this is one of his least favorite books. He will start at page one and stop around page five. I think this is because the activity is the same for each page.

On each page there is a picture and around the picture are capital and lower case letters and the activity is to find all of the a's for example around the picture.

Things do happen when you click on the picture you get little sounds. And today, and I'm not sure how, my son was clicking on some letters and it would give the sound of the letter- that was nice. The pictures are cute. The little poems/limericks (?) under each picture are funny, although the humor gets lost on my son most of the time.

This could have been done better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great learning book for 3-4 yr olds, January 12, 2003
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
After reading many reviews from others who rated this book, I was skeptical about getting it for my 3 1/2 yr old son. I am sure glad I did! My son already knew how to say the alphabet, but was still learning the letters and recognition that would help him one day to read. This book is great because it has a letter on every page and a game that goes with it. Everytime you press it, it says what letter it is. This helps a younger child learn by seeing that letter what letter it is. I would recommend this book for 3-4 yr olds who do not yet know their alphabet by sight. This book would probably be boring to a child who already does, however since all that is covered it the alphabet.
