When J.K. Rowling allowed the licensing of Harry Potter toys and games, she did so with the insistence that the products must feature an educational value beyond just being fun. Rowling's wish has come true in this complex and entertaining game that uses players' problem-solving skills as they explore Hogwart's in a quest to find the elusive Sorcerer's Stone. But rather than traveling through the school, the school, with its 11 rooms and intricate detailing, travels around the players. Electronic lights and sound effects add to the fun. Clear directions are included but the game does require a fair amount of concentration and may be too much for players younger than 8 years old. As was the case with the Harry Potter movie and books, the game is equally delightful and interesting for both kids and adults. Three AA batteries are required but not included. --John Moe

My 8-year-old absolutely *loves* this game! It is played on a 3D replica of Hogwarts castle, with electronic sounds and light effects (the sounds are an integral part of the game, introducing extra elements of chance).

You first have to build the 3D castle. This took a long time so we are keeping it set up for now. This game is a race to and through Hogwarts to get the Sorcerer's stone. It has about a million rules with a different section in the rulebook for each part of the castle, but after you've played it once or twice they are actually easy to remember. So far, it is fairly fun even for the adults in the house. It's about 3 parts luck and 1 part strategy.

It says it is for ages 8 and up, but a younger child who can read should have little trouble with it. Mine did need an adult around to review the rules the first few times.

You can play/enjoy the game without having read the books, but the game contains spoilers for book 1.

This item is not like any other Harry Potter board games that have been released rrecently. It is a 3-D model of Hogwarts that rotates 360 degress so you don't have to move around the board, but can turn it so you can play wherever your pawn is. This game also has lights and sound effects that bring out the magic. The best thing about this toy is that it also works as a playset, and you can play with the pawns in the set. It also includes brooms, coins, and replicas of the Knuts, Sickles, and Galleons! Kids will love this game and will also love playing with it when they are not using it for a game. Enjoy this toy as you "cast spells and perform magic" in order to get through your own 3-D journey to Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
