5.0 out of 5 stars Their Best Album, July 22, 2001
By A Customer
I think this cd, Bitter Suites To Succubi is probably their best release yet. Maybe that is because this is the only lineup that's stayed in place from the previous album. But now that Robin's gone, they lose another member. Where's the group loyalty? Anyhow, everything here is awesome. The cover is a striking return to form, lyrics top-notch, great Dani Filth vocals beautifully complemented by the lovely Sarah Jezebel Deva, fantastic guitar. Best songs: All Hope In Eclipse, Born In A Burial Gown, Summer Dying Fast, No Time To Cry, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Suicide and Other Comforts, Black Goddess Rises II- so that's most of the tracks on the cd minus the two instrumentals. If you thought Cradle of Filth were dead, think again. You're mental if you miss the power of this. Sell-outs their not- jealousy from smaller, lesser bands is the word. Totally original and very creative. Remakes are pretty different from the originals so they're not really the same songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an ep should be, July 18, 2004
By John "Ira" (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
No matter what type of record cradle of filth trys to do wether it be live, greatest hits,ep,lp they are always trying to make it the best they can. This is truly shown in the ep "Bitter Suites to Succubi" This album includes two new insturment, A cover song of sisters of mercy's "no time to cry" four brand new songs and amd three old cradle of filth songs re-recorded. I mean, why would I want to shell out 15 dollars for four songs and a remix? Cradle of filth always makes your purchase worth while. Now to change the subject a bit. I notice people saying in reviews of numerous cof products and also people I personally know. About how they used to enjoy cradle of filth but now a days don't enjoy it as much because they have found more trule BM. This has never happened to be because I really don't see cof as black metal, they have elements to them that are bm but are not true black metal. So enjoy there music for what it is. Now onto my thoughts of the tracks.

Sin deep my wicked angel -4.5/5 One of my all time favorite cof insturmentals.

All hope in eclipse - 4/5 A very good full length opener the guitar work is done well

Born in a burial gown - 4.5/5 A single and a good choice at that Martin has some good keyboard work here.

Summer dying fast - 5/5 An old song re-done from TPOEMF album very good.

No time to cry - 5/5 Sisters of mercy Cover, they did quite well with it I was impressed.

The principle of evil made flesh - 5/5 the re-done version, from the same album as the title of this song.In all the re-done versions the songs are less raw and alot more clear this is most noticable in this song

Suicide and other comforts - 50/5 My favorite cof song right here everything is magnificant and beautiful, this song brought me to tears the 1st time I heard it.

Dinner at deviant's palace - 3/5 eerie insturmental, has the father's pray I believe sung backwards.

The black goddess Rises 2 - 6/5 Another re-done song from TPOEMF album and the best one at that, I love how it goes from heavy to melodic and back to being heavy

Scorched earth erotica - 10/5 another single and my 2nd favorite from this album. The lyrics and keyboards are supurb.

So ends this review. I hope you found some help in it about this album, enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interim CD but it's still very enjoyable, September 9, 2003
Black metal isn't my favorite subgenre of metal, but there's something about Cradle of Filth that keeps my interest. Maybe it's their flawless musical integration, or maybe it's Dani Filth's disturbingly poetic lyrics. But they kick bum, no matter how "commercialized" they've made the genre. Bitter Suites to Succubi does seem a little rushed, and has a good deal of sound contradiction in it, but overall, it's one of my more favored COF albums. "Black Goddess Rises II" is probably my favorite song, and the instrumental "Sin Deep My Wicked Angel" (I love using that phrase) is good as are most COF instrumental segues. "Suicide and Other Comforts" is one of the better songs as well. Basically, there aren't any really bad songs, but instead of taking all the negative criticism as definitive, I'd listen to some samples or maybe go to one of those music stores that lets you sample the CD before you buy it, and then make your final decision. That's what you should be doing anyway. But if you're truly a Filth fan, you will probably find it at least somewhat appealing to your darkside.
