If you've heard that strength training is beneficial for you, but you don't know how to go about it, this is a good place to start. Denise Austin: Shortcuts, Arms & Shoulders includes three progressive workouts that will help you get strong without hurting yourself. Workout Level 1, which lasts 10 minutes, focuses on the basics of muscle strengthening for beginners. While an assistant demonstrates each move, Austin explains what muscles are working, why these muscles are important, and how to do the exercise with proper form and technique. Here you will learn basic exercises for each major muscle in the back, chest, arms, and shoulders. Workout 2, also 10 minutes long, is considerably harder because Austin gives multiple exercises for each muscle group, going quickly from one to the next. Workout Level 3, which she calls the "ultimate workout," raises the intensity with new, more difficult exercises, sometimes in combination. You won't believe that last workout is only 15 minutes long when your muscles scream for mercy. Austin recommends 3- and 5-pound sets of dumbbells, though of course you should go heavier as you get stronger. --Joan Price

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Video, July 20, 2001
By A Customer
I have been using this videpo and her buns and thighs videos together every other day for the past couple weeks. They are challenging especially when using 5lb wts and up. If I don't thin I have time...I think..mmm..10 minutes? I CAN DO THAT! and usually I'm feeling so good that I'll do the lower workout too! One of the best videos I have purchased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Effective, September 5, 2001
By A.N. (Bedford, TX United States) - See all my reviews
I bought both of the Denise Austin Shortcuts Videos and found this one particularly effective. I did only 10 minute workouts and it actually tired me out. I feel that I have done something good for myself and it didn't take up much time at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars She goes too fast!, March 21, 2003
By A Customer
I felt this workout in my arms. But, she does the movements too fast!! Initially, she does them slowly, but then she speeds up--I was concerned about doing the exercises improperly. This is the same reason I hate TaeBo.
