Amazon.com Review

Bosch's 10-inch Worksite table saw might just be the best of the current bunch. Benchtop table saws--which weigh 60 to 100 pounds and are light enough for one person to carry from the truck to the job site--have increased in popularity in recent years. They set up easily on a workbench or sawhorses and generally feature stable components that make them great for pros and serious hobbyists alike. Although at 60 pounds the Bosch is lighter than any other saw in its class, this saw is no lightweight. It sports a die-cast undercarriage and powerful 4.4-horsepower, 15 amp motor--burly components that make it a serious, albeit slight, contender. Conveniently, the Bosch comes ready to use right out of the box; we were making cuts about 10 minutes after the UPS delivery. Plus, it's the only benchtop table saw with an arbor lock, so mounting the blade is a one-wrench affair (less chance for busted knuckles). The wrench--like all those that come with Bosch tools--is forged, rather than stamped, and so there are no sharp edges that dig into your hand during blade changes. It's a small detail, but one that matters and one that's typical of the attention to detail paid by Bosch engineers.

A flip of the paddle-style on/off switch initiates the soft-start electronics, which ramp the blade up to speed quickly without any disturbing jolt. The electronic feedback, popular on many saws today, keeps the blade turning at a constant speed, no matter what the load. The fence is the heart of any table saw and we found Bosch's to be a beauty. It's well machined and locks securely and accurately to the table. The cam-lock handle is padded, seats flush, and feels good to use. Like the comparable DeWalt saw, the Bosch features an extendable fence that makes it easy to rip four-by-eight panel material. It feels solid and slides smoothly, and the scales are easy to read. (There's even a built-in magnifying glass to cut down on the squint factor.) As with all the new Bosch tools, wrenches and removable items store nicely onboard the saw. The fence snaps into a holder on the side of the saw and stays put, and the miter gauge slides into a slot on the front of the tool--yet another small detail that we appreciate. The bottom line? The Bosch is a powerful saw that handles big stock without bogging down. --Mark McDonald

5.0 out of 5 stars bu-bye Makita, June 14, 2001
By A Customer
Burned up my 5 year old Makita portable table a week ago. After a few hours of research on the net I decided to give the Bosch a try. (I make lodgepole furniture as well as a complete remodel of my 33 room motel. A lot of heavy ripping and endless trim work.) After it showed up, an employee and I set it up with no problems. There was definately some thought that went into the production of this saw. The fence holds tight, the blade adjutment takes but a second to raise and lower, the built in extension operates smooth and is sturdy. It also has one of the smoothest operating blade guards I have used. The large heavy deck is easy to work off of and supports material well. The stand that came with it is a great extra also. I did a few projects with it today and boy am I pleased. Nice powerful motor but not with the Makita whine or the or the Dewalt kick. The bosch processed my boards as nice as could be. Never showed signs of a load. I definately am glad I spent the few extra dollars for the saw over the Makita or the Dewalt, and the work bench was included!! I own a few Bosch power tools and always liked the smoother operation compared to the comparable brands. As for the table saw in the portable class, I wouldn't recomend anything but the Bosch. It feels and operates like a shop table saw.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bosched engineering?, October 14, 2001
By cary gaynor (Lafayette, Ca) - See all my reviews
I own several bosch tools and have always been satisfied with the quality and workmanship of these products. This has changed since owning a bosch 4000 table saw. Right out of the box, I put it to work, from ripping hardwoods to large dado's and I must admit, I was very impressed with the strong motor and soft start. After a few months i started to have problems with raising and lowering the blade. Flipping the saw over to clean the gears, i noticed these were made out of plastic and the plate which holds these spindles are also plastic.I was always cleaning and oiling these gears to get them to operate. This plastic plate got fatigued and finally sheared off, right after the one year warranty expired. The raising and lowering gears are the heart and soul of any table saw. To make these pieces out of plastic and not replaceable(plate is part of entire body) is an engineering tragidy. Now my saw no longer functions and bosch won't fix my problem. Now im looking at Delta and buying American!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bosch 4000-07 Best In Class, September 5, 2004
By W. Frederick (Fort Wayne, Indiana) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I did a lot of research before I purchased the Bosch 4000-07 (includes outfeed support and stand). By default, I was convinced that I would purchase the DeWalt for the same price. I also looked a lower-priced Sears portable table saw where I saw the DeWalt and had time to examine both. DeWalt did not have the outfeed table. I wanted to examine the Bosch in person, before spending that kind of money. In the end, I bought the Bosch based on the online reviews and pictures.

I replaced a Ryobi BT 3000 Precision Woodcutting System with sliding. I had the Ryobi for ten years and could hardly wait until it wore out, so I could replace it. To say the least, the Ryobi label of "Precision Woodcutting" was a misnomer. It has been a constant hassle to keep the saw aligned. I have had to overhaul the saw, replacing drive belts and repeatedly re-alighning all aspects of the saw. The sliding table stuck out too far and consequently, the saw took up too much room in my small shop. It required constant adjustment. I wanted a smaller saw with more precision, with a good table top and traditional miter slots. I am getting more precise in my woodworking.

Setup time with the Bosch was quick. Addition of the outfeed table and left side support were quick and simple. The engineering is superb. I did take the time to check all alignments with a dial protractor. It was dead on in every test--miter gauge presets, rip fence and the gauge for bevel cuts. I had hoped for the Bosch reputation for quality to shine through and it did. It is truly accurate, unlike my previous two saws (the Ryobi and a Sears traditional aluminum).

I decided that I would take a vow of safety with the new saw, leaving the anti-kickback device and blade guard for every cut possible. I have not been hindered in the least by its use. In fact, I am more at ease using the saw. Bosch can't take all the credit for this, but I didn't experience any of the difficulties other reviewers had with the safety mechanisms.

The blade housing and arbor placement design is very similar to the older Ryobi. I've learned to adapt to it over the years and take my time with blade replacement and dado blades.

Finally, in the Bosch, I have a compact, accurate traditional-style well-engineered table saw. I just didn't have the room for a large cabinet saw. I appreciate the lighter weight Bosch. I can slide it in to position easily. The saw will probably not leave my small shop. Cutting plywood is a breeze with the outfeed table, left side support and the 25" rip fence capacity.

I would not recommend cutting large sheets of plywood on this saw. I rough cut plywood (oversize) with a jigsaw first, and then get precision with the Bosch by shaving off a 1/4' or so. I never did find a local dealer so I could see the saw before purchase. I bought here at Amazon for $475(no shipping or handling).

Nothing is left unconsidered in the engineering and design of this saw. All parts, miter gauge, blade arbor wrench, rip fence are stowable on the saw's plastic body, even the (supplied) allen wrench has its own designated holder.

I waxed the table top with Johnson's paste wax. I have repeatedly rubbed scrap pieces of maple and basswood on the oxidized aluminum surface to see if it produced any marks on the wood. None.
