Biography

Featuring producers Florian Seyberth and Peter Heider, Boozoo Bajou are a downbeat duo from Nuremberg, Germany known for blending inspirations like reggae, dub, Cajun music, folk, jazz, and pop. They first appeared in 1998 via the Stereo Deluxe label and the single "Night Over Manaus." The exotic lounge number drew the attention of Richard Dorfmeister who hired the duo to remix "Chocolate Elvis,"… Read more in Amazon's Boozoo Bajou Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Bass Therapy, January 30, 2002
By Marc Goldstein (West Hollywood, California USA) - See all my reviews
The bonus to this recording is that it comes with it's own micro climate, possibly a Brazilian rain forest, or a beach in Jamaica. Oddly enough, it emanates from Nuremberg, Germany, where the Boozoou Bajou trio has crafted a bassy, sensuous and sexy album, equally influenced by the
deep blues of Muddy Waters and the sound manipulations of Lee "Scratch" Perry. The craftsmanship is flawless, the rhythms fluid and the music dangerously intoxicating. It's sensual warmth sets it apart from the electronic chill of other euro-dub outfits like Tosca, Shantel or Waldek. A smooth blend of latin, west-indies and jamaican flavors collide to make "Satta" ("relax" in Jamaican) an instant downtempo classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep, dubby and downright delicious, October 9, 2001
By "cafedelmar" (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Prior to this release Boozoo Bajou whet our appetite with some tasty remixes. Here they serve the entire meal, starter through to dessert - all of it lip smacking good! Though firmly rooted in the bass-heavy, head-nodding sound of dub, the tracks maintain interest by gently exploring other styles (such as trip hop, break beat, blues, and bossa nova). At the core of each song is strong percussion and around the drumming the other layers of sound are added. The overall effect is a dreamy-stoned sound that will appeal to lovers of the slower stuff from Kruder & Dorfmeister, Tosca, Thievery Corporation, Smith & Mighty, et al. It is difficult to pick a favourite track but "Down & out" is wonderfully atmospheric and conjures up images of tumbleweed, rattle snacks and the lonesome life of a cowboy traversing the Arizona desert. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mellow Electronic Swamp Jam. Just about perfect, January 13, 2007
After reviewing a few albums on amazon and realizing I hadn't given anything 5 stars yet, I decided it was time to get positive. Maybe the first album that came to mind as undoubtedly deserving a 5-star rating was Satta. This is one of those rare albums with no weak tracks; you don't put this CD on to hear a few favorite songs, you put it on to play all the way through and let the mood wash over you. Don't confuse this to mean that you can sleep through it, though -- the tracks are all strong and varied. While certainly a chill album, it is one that commands your attention regardless, throughout the entire journey. (Different reviewers have felt transported to different places through Satta; to me it's a journey through a mythical, backwoods swampland somewhere in the southern US.) And I dare you to try to make it through the whole thing without breaking into some head-bobbing. I wouldn't even use my beloved Shuffle function on this album, feeling that it would unfairly disrupt the hypnotic momentum that starts building as soon as you hit Play. Transcendent and defies classification.
