Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
On Land of the Free?--a record inspired by the worldwide protests against the World Trade Organization--L.A. skatecore veterans Pennywise claim to have written "a soundtrack for political activists all over the world." That this, their seventh album, is one of their finest to date is not due to any inspired political invective. The anthemic barrage of the opening "Time Marches On" sets the tone for an album whose music impacts like a police baton charge. Pennywise work so well as a complete band, it's often nothing short of breathtaking; just listen to the way Randy Bradbury's deft bass lines cleverly weave around the chugging juggernaut riffage dealt out by guitarist Fletcher Dragg on the towering holler-along "F**k Authority." The politics might not be expressed with an eloquence as revolutionary as Pennywise clearly think, but forget about that. Land of the Free? is a reminder of the sheer seismic power of punk rock. --Louis Pattison

Product Description
In their seventh studio release Land Of The Free, Pennywise have turned their attention toward the issues of global politics, drawing inspiration from the worldwide WTO protests and the recent United States Presidential elections as fuel for their anti-establishment position. 10 tracks. 2001 release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Land of the free, May 17, 2004
By A Customer
Land of the free is more powerful than From the ashes(not that FTA don't rock, it rocks trust me!) for some reasons, it has a type a punch on this one that isn't on other PW albums, which make the mood of the album really louder and powerful!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is pennywise?, December 2, 2001
By Rex Marksmanson "HEYO!" (Long Island, New York) - See all my reviews
That's the question I hear alot from people when they give their first listen. Yes it is Pennywise, and their return this year with "Land of the free?" is being hailed by some and criticized by others. Personally, I think this was a great return from Pennywise after being absent for some time, and their new anti-political attitude is actually quite enjoyable. Now don't get me wrong, this is the same group you learned to love on "About time", with intense guitar work, fast drumming and great lyrics. The real difference between this release and their earlier works rests in the lyrics, which are aimed at the United States Government, and the recent violet WTO riots. Everything seems to come together quite nicly as one fast paced, over the edge punk rock formula. Defintely worth it for Pennywise fans, and a great experience for newcomers.

5.0 out of 5 stars buy this cd!!!, February 22, 2003
By A Customer
This is easily my favorite cd by my favorite band! The music is unbelievable and the lyrics are good too. Here's my breakdown of the cd.

1)'Time Marches On' The second or third best song on the cd. Very good tune. 9/10

2)'Land of the Free' Good song but of the caliber of some of the other ones. 8/10

3)'The World' One of the best songs on the cd. Very different from all of the other songs and especially the other ones i really like. 9/10

4)'F*ck Authority' This is my favorite song of all time. It's the reason i bought the cd and i'm still not tired of it. 11/10

5)'Something Wrong with me' good song but nothing like the one it follows. 7/10

6)'Enemy' pretty good song but my least favorite on this cd. 6/10

7)'My God' Very good song. About how fundy christians preach love and justice but only really care about themselves. One of my favs. 9/10

8)'Twist of Fate' pretty good song. 7/10

9)'Who's on your side' would stand out on any any other album. However its not as good as many of the other songs on this one. 7/10

10)'Its up to you' another ok song. 7/10

11)'Set me Free' Stands out as being lighter than most of the other songs on this album. 7/10

12)'Divine Intervention' Light like the previous song but better. 8/10

13)'WTO' similar to F*ck Authority but not anywhere near as good. Still a good song though. 8/10

14)'Is There Anyone Listening' A song unlike any of the others on the cd. Very powerful but in a different way than F*ck Authority. 9/10
