Miniature, child-size pianos have been a traditional child's toy for generations. Perhaps Grandma or even Great-Grandma had a piano that looked much like this one, because Schoenhut has been manufacturing toy pianos since 1872. This traditionally styled upright piano is made of plywood and hardwood with a mahogany finish that looks like cherry wood. The back panel above the keys and the larger back panel behind the child's knees are made of black acrylic. The piano comes with a small matching bench with four sturdy screw-on legs, just the right size for a preschooler. The keyboard's two full octaves produce a traditional toy piano sound. It's rather tinny compared to a real piano or an electronic keyboard, but is nevertheless the traditional chimelike sound of a toy piano. Included with the piano is a color-coded music strip to place over the keys (indicating the note names) and a coordinated songbook with 10 familiar children's songs. --Marcie Bovetz, mother and former children's librarian

Chromatically tuned, the lovely chime-like notes are produced by little hammers striking precision-ground, German steel music rods (versus the conventional taut wires used in full-sized models).

Schoenhut?s patented Learning System, with its play-by-color teaching method, makes playing simple and fun. A removable color strip fits behind the keys to guide small fingers from chord to chord. The chart also works on adult keyboards, since keys on Schoenhut toy pianos are of corresponding width. This teaches children proper "finger stretch" from the very beginning. The accompanying Songbook contains a collection of familiar tunes. This Learning System has been specially designed to build a child?s confidence and develop basic playing skills.

Igot this piano from a cousin back in the 70's. It is the best gift I ever got. U can learn to play by color. Or u can learn fingering from the books that come with this lovely Piano.The sound is of even a good quality . I loved the color and it has the look of a real piano..It helped me get a good start in music. I still play the piano.
