5.0 out of 5 stars A score as varried as Lady Lara Croft, June 27, 2001
Graeme Revell really shines with this one. The score is quite fascinating as it jumps from one musical cue to the next. There are soft liquid string tones which become blended with a driving ethnic beat. This beat can be soft background drums mixed with strings one moment then frantic native pounding the next. There is a sweet piano solo that is clearly Lara's childhood theme. There is a good mix of full orchestral and ethnic music which goes along perfectly with the movie's title character, Lara Croft. English with a free and wildly adventuresome traveling spirit. Be sure to catch the score's strongest track, Number 14 THE PLANETARY ALIGNMENT. This cue is perfect. It has coral, orchestreal, ethnic, and synthetic beats all mixed into several incredible moments of music. It has a chorus singing in latin along with a full orchestra, strings a' blazin', mixed with a very clock sounding beat, clock sounds a driving native drum beat, a synthetic beat and strong precussion hits. The endresult for THE PLANETARY ALIGNMENT is a menagare of themes and beats mixed together which come to the bring of sensory overload without going over. A definate plus. Pick this one up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Revell scores again..., July 19, 2001
When Pitch Black was released and I realized Graeme Revell had scored the film, I was ecstatic. The score was a brilliant execution of suspense and heroic themes that would definitely be a must-have for my collection...

... except that it wasn't released...

My disappointment stayed with me until I discovered that the Tomb Raider score would be turned over to this accomplished and rather ecclectic composer, so I prepared once again to be the proud owner of a new Revell score...

... and now I am. Weeks after the soundtrack album and the film itself were released, the score CD hit stores and I made my way in haste. I wasn't disappointed. Revell pitches his themes with a varied range and emotional context, from jarring electronic rock to subtle ethnic vocals and dramatic choir arrangements that filter through the action of the film and, like all of his collaborations, succeeds in accompanying yet never overcoming the on-screen action. Some of the better tracks are in the latter half of the film, namely "Angkor Wat" and "The Planetary Alignment".

It's shortcomings are few, just an odd track here and there that doesn't match("The Brahman" is just annoying) but one thing I did notice is that the tracks themselves are mistitled or simply out of place. But, c'est la vi, the music is still there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, August 4, 2001
By lucretia_ten (Cornwall) - See all my reviews
When i saw the movie.. i was taken aback by the moving music throughout the film. I had to buy the Score, My personal Favourites are "Siberia", "The Clock", and "The Letter"... these three, i found extremely moving to me. Giving the movie the atmosphere you would expect from the scenes in which they were used. Although, there was ONE tiny dissapointment with it, i wanted to hear more of the soft, emotional music from the scenes with Lara Croft and her father, Lord Croft... all in all though, the album is a must purchase.
