4.0 out of 5 stars A Pretty Good Example of Girl Power Pop, March 1, 2002
The Legally Blonde soundtrack is a great one if you're looking for girl power music. Full of songs telling girls that they don't need a guy to tell them they're pretty to make them beautiful and that they can be a one girl revolution, this soundtrack aims to be a feminist pop machine. And, that it does. Full of pop gems and almost pop gems, this is definitely a soundtrack worth listening to, especially if you're a girl.
Here's my breakdown of the songs on this soundtrack:

1. Perfect Day: (4/5) The first time I heard this song, I loved it. It's really catchy and well-done. It reminds me of a song the group Letters to Cleo would sing instead of being your typical Hoku song. It gets a little annoying the more you hear it, but is still good. It's what made me buy the soundtrack in the first place.

2. Love Is A Beautiful Thing: (4/5) I loved Krystal's song "Supergirl" from the Princess Diaries, so I was a little disappointed by this song. It's a good song, but in my opinion, it wasn't as good as Supergirl. It has a nice beat and her voice sounds great, but I thought it was too repetitive and not catchy enough.

3. We Could Still Belong Together: (5/5) Lisa Loeb is one of my favorite singers. I have enjoyed several of her past CDs and songs from other soundtracks and this one is no exception. It's catchy, though not as much as the great "Stay", and is a little `edgier' than some songs by her. It has more of a beat than what you may expect from her. It also is the first song to start with the girl power vibe that this CD has.

4. Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty: (4/5) This song is very different from Samantha Mumba's singles, such as "Gotta Tell You." It's more of a ballad than a pop/R&B song. It has positive lyrics and her voice sounds nice- she sounds sort of like Brandy, but the song is too slow, in my opinion, and could have been shorter.

5. One Girl Revolution: (5/5) This is my second favorite song on the CD. It's so upbeat with great girl power lyrics. (Sadly, I am a sucker for girl power songs..) I listen to this song on repeat when I'm getting ready to go anywhere. With lyrics like "I could lose my heart and freedom if my fear defines my world; I declare my independence from the critics and their stones" how could I resist it?

6. A Thousand Miles: (5/5) And, here's my absolute favorite song on the soundtrack. It's one of the "non-teen pop" pop/rock songs on the CD. It's a really nice likable sweet songs with nice likable sweet lyrics and great instrumentals. The piano playing in this song is excellent! I often listen to this song on repeat when I'm trying to relax and let myself get lost in it.

7. Magic: (3/5) I normally don't like rap/R&B songs, but this one isn't that bad. It's fairly catchy with a refrain that can get stuck in your head for days. It's one of those songs that is mostly rapped by a couple guys except for the refrain which is sung by a girl. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. It can get annoying easily though...

8. Watch Me Shine: (4/5) And, here's another girl power song. This time, we're being asked to watch the singer shine. For those of you who have seen the movie, this is the song that was used as we watched Elle get herself together and go from being a law school spaz to a good student. It's a catchy, Britney-ish pop song that really isn't bad and is very likable.

9. Ooh La La: (3/5) I don't like this song very much, but is ok. It's a song that I don't really love or hate. I normally do skip over it though. It has a good beat, but I've never been a big fan of Latin music. And, this one isn't really one of the exceptions.

10. Can't Get Me Down: (4/5) This is the only song that I really wouldn't call a pop song. It's the required angry chick song and it gets the job done. It's actually pretty good and slightly reminiscent of Joan Jett. After listening to all the pop songs on this CD, this was a breath of fresh air for me- someone who generally listens to alternative music. The main problem with it is that it's fairly generic.

11. Sex Machine: (3/5) I would definitely have to say that this is the most annoying song on the CD. It's way too repetitive and just really annoys me. The background noises and vocals give me a headache. It does have a nice beat though and the main vocals aren't bad. It's kind of good that it's towards the end of the CD though. I rarely have to hear it this way..

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect CD for any time of the day!!, January 22, 2002
By A Customer
I bought this CD because I absolutely loved the movie. Many of the songs make you want to get up and dance. Hoku's "Perfect Day" is probably the highlight of the soundtrack because it is featured a couple of times in the movie but the other songs are just as good as well. Here are my thoughts on each song:

1. Perfect Day- a very fun song and makes you want to dance and actually makes your day a perfect day because of the lyrics and the beat.

2. Love is A Beautiful Thing- a typical song from Krystal and an excellent song. If you liked "Supergirl" from Princess Diaries, you will like this song.

3. We Could Still Belong Together- very upbeat and good lyrics. A very enjoyable song.

4. Don't Need You To Tell Me I'm Pretty- One of my favorite songs on the soundtrack. It is a slow song and has beautiful lyrics sung by Samantha Mumba.

5. One Girl Revolution- This song is not one of my favorites but it is still a good and upbeat song.

6. A Thousand Miles- A VERY good song. Vanessa Carlton has a beautiful song and does a wonderful job singing this song.

7. Magic- Another of my favorites. This song really makes you want to dance too.

8. Watch Me Shine- This song is my absolute favorite. The beat is fast and definitely gets you hooked on to it.

9. Ooh La La- Another great song. It has a kind of calypso beat to it and is very enjoyable.

10. Can't Get Me Down- Another upbeat song. It makes you want to get up and dance.

11. Sex Machine- Mya does a great job singing this song and it is also upbeat and moving and very enjoyable.

All in all, if you liked the movie, I think you will like this soundtrack. Most of the songs are upbeat and easy to dance to and it is definitely one of my favorites. If you have any doubts, just go out and buy it because you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upbeat, Sunny Day, Positive, Happy and Fun CD, May 24, 2002
I love this CD and it seems to always be in the CD player. Its a bit on the bubble gum side of music, but one needs a balance for the depressing music everyone else seems to make. Its the kind of CD that I'd like to buy for my sister and girlfriends. Funny that I don't remember most of the music being in the movie, except for "Perfect Day" (which I love). No matter, the songs are great and best of all I'm listening to some great artists that I haven't really paid attention to before now.
