Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Play MP3-CDs, CD-R, CD-RW, and conventional discs, with the Aiwa XPMP3. With its E.A.S.S. (Electronic Anti-Shock System) technology, you'll get 10 seconds of skip protection with audio (inactive during MP3 playback) for protection against rocky roads--particularly handy when you use the included car kit adapter and take your tunes on the road. An in-line remote control, a start-mode switch for faster CD startup, and some snazzy over-the-ear headphones come with the player.

Product Description
Aiwa's XP-MP3 is an MP3-capable portable CD player with excellent audio quality and perhaps the best song/directory navigation on the market. The XP-MP3 plays standard audio CDs, as well as MP3 files. It supports both CD-R and CD-RW discs and will even play back multisession discs. Sound quality is quite good for all audio files. Aiwa's consumer audio experience shows in the XP-MP3's control panel. Controls are logically laid out in an oval pattern, with dedicated keys for moving between directories. You can play MP3 CDs in Disc mode, where all operations affect the entire CD, or in Album mode, where they work on a single directory. The LCD screen shows the current track and album number, as well as the various playback options such as random, program, and resume. There's more - along with MP3 playback, the XP-MP3 gives you all the accessories you need for MP3 CDs in the car! With the included car cassette and car power adapters, you really can take your MP3s everywhere. On top of that, you get Electronic Anti Shock System Plus (to reduce skipping when listening to regular audio CDs), Dynamic Super Linear bass boost, and a sturdy design that can handle rough treatment.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was miss lead, October 27, 2001
By James Eppich (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
This product does everything that it clames. The only problem is that when it says it has electronic skip protection, they dont tell you that the ANTI-SKIP DOESN'T WORK FOR MP3s. Anti skip only works for CDs. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED. Everything else works fine. it even looks cool. A great feature is that it will charge rechargeable batties.
I work with sound and music a lot. The way that MP3s sound though this player, I suspect that the output is compressed. (this means that maximum sound quality is not being achived. If you do buy this, also order a good set of headphones.
Over all, if this product were cheaper, I would recommend it to my friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great performer, not quite up to Aiwa standards.., August 12, 2001
By Janet E. Ronstadt "ghettoraid" (Menlo Park, CA United States) - See all my reviews
I used this unit for one week, several hours at a time. Performance is flawless, plays my whole collection of MP3's without a problem. The only complaints I have about the XPMP3C is the fact that there is _no_ EASS function with MP3 CD's! Why not? Also, the unit has a cheap feel to it; it feels too light! Not at all like Aiwa's MD line... For 180 I'd expect a remote.. Aiwa: replace the "car kit" with a simple corded in-line remote!!

Buy Aiwa though, it is superior to the no name brands out there..

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a good CD/MP3 player (but no anti-shock for MP3 CDs), October 19, 2001
I bought it two weeks ago. I use it as an audio CD player most of the time because it has no anti-shock for MP3 CDs. What is good is that it has a support for CD-R and CD-RW discs. Batteries are enough to play like 4-6 audio CDs with anti-shock feature turned on. I like this CD player but nobody told me about absence of anti-shock for MP3 CDs when I was to buy it. This thing disappoints me. But what is really good is that even without anti-shock turned on it works rather pretty when you walk.
