4.0 out of 5 stars DigiMania, August 26, 2001
By "ginsgryf" (Garland, TX United States) - See all my reviews
Many sites have already classified this game as a Digimon version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game for Gameboy. In a few words, they are wrong. I have not played much of the Digimon TCG, but I can tell you this much--the Video Game is different. The three types (Virus, Vaccine, and Data) are thrown out for 5 new types (Fire, Ice, Darkness, Rare, and Nature). You can have more than one card (IE-two exact same Birdramons), and option cards play heavy in this game. Graphics are nice. The music is ok, but repetitive (having the Digimon theme music playing during the intro was nice). Controls are beyond easy to learn--however, this does not mean the game itself is easy to master. Overall, very enjoyable, and addictive. (A hint for beginners--start with Veemon; he has the most Armor forms; plus, his deck is the best to start with.)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Card Battle Is On!, February 6, 2002
Digital Card Battle . . . it's about Digimon cards. You don't get to raise Digimon, but just play cards . . .
That's probably what you're thinking to yourself if you haven't played this game yet. But I promise you, this game will surprise you. One thing I want you to note is that it is a little different than the Digimon Digi-Battle Card Game. But even if you're not a Digimon card player, you'll enjoy this game.
With a lesson from Betamon, you'll learn how to play the cards in just minutes. The sounds are pretty good, and the polygon battles are fantastic, unlike the Digimon World 2 battles, which are longer and have very cheap graphics.
And, you get a complete set of Season 2 Digimon (except Wormmon's line). You get Veemon and all his forms, Hawkmon and all his forms, Armadillomon and all his forms, Patamon and all his forms, and Gatomon and all her forms.
You can get the following Digimon as partner Digimon - Veemon, Hawkmon, Armadillomon, Patamon, Gatomon, and Wormmon. Note that you can't get all of them, so choose wisely.
In the beginning, you can choose between Veemon, Hawkmon and Armadillomon decks. Veemon is the best, because he can attain three DigiEggs: Courage (Flamedramon), Friendship (Raidramon), and Miracles (Magnamon).
And yes, you can armor-digivolve, and you can "card fuse" where you fuse two cards together to get a better card.
The storyline is not very good in this game, but it dosen't effect the game as much as it does the others. The basic plot is trying to win battles against all the cities on Digi-Land, while fighting the dark forces. You can meet all your favorite characters from Season 1 and 2 - Tai, Matt, Sora, Mimi, Joe, T.K., Kari, Davis, Cody, Ken, and "Keely" - that's Bandai's name for Yolei.
So what are you waiting for? I recommend you get this game now!
