5.0 out of 5 stars EN-5100 Great Value, September 4, 2001
By A Customer
The Envision EN-5100 provides a wonderful view for a great price. The picture is very bright and clear. Setup is easy, take it out of the box and plug it into your graphics card and AC outlet, its that simple. Windows 2000 reckognizes it as a plug and play monitor, you must use the included Envision INF floppy disk driver to get it setup as an EN-5100 (though it works just fine if you don't). As of 10/03/01 Envision did not have the INF on the web.

I looked at 2 other LCD monitors side by side before purchasing the EN-5100, even though the others cost more, I thought the Envision had a better picture for text based work. I'm not a graphic artist so color matching was not important, I'm not stating the colors are right or wrong, better or worse. I'm just stating I didn't compare colors, I wouldn't even know what to compare :)

I did find one very small annoying feature, barely worth mentioning but... The OSD menu cannot be moved from the center of the screen during screen adjustments.

When the monitor is presented a new video resolution it automatically configures itself including focus, brightness, contrast, vertical and horizontal positioning. For all the cases I presented it, it did a fine job of adjusting itself.

In summary at least as of this writing, I think you'll be hard pressed to find an LCD monitor for the cost of the EN-5100 that looks as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Envision 15" LCD vs. Envision 17" and 3 CRT's, January 3, 2002
By m skinner "m_skinner" (savannah, ga United States) - See all my reviews
I recently upgraded my Sony Triniton CRT Monitor to the Envision 15" LCD Flat panel. I compared many brands and even bought a few to try out at home because of the 14 day return policy at the two retail stores I visited. Amazon's prices were either identical or cheaper and I would have definately bought through them if I had known which monitor I wanted in the beginning (It was much easier to return the ones I did not want here locally). So here is the low down. I tried the following monitors at home: Envision 15" LCD, Envision 17" LCD, Philips 17" Flat screen CRT (CRT=Cathode Ray Tube, which means its just like a regular TV/Bulky Type of monitor), Viewsonic 17" Flat Screen CRT and my Sony Trinitron CRT that had nothing wrong with it, but I just wanted something new. I also compared all the major brands of LCD's in the store: Viewsonic, Samsumg, KDS, NEC.
I choose the Envision 15" LCD because it offers the best bang for the buck. Here how I broke it down:
1. The Envision 15" LCD had the brightest Display other than the Envision 17" (which was only marginally brighter)
2. Text was extremely clear (Just be sure to run it in its native resolution of 1024 x 768 at 75Hz
3. Very simple to hook up-I was up and running in 5 minutes
4. Viewing angles were great even though some of the reviews stated otherwise.
5. CRT's put me to sleep after a while due to eyestrain. I can surf all night with my LCD without a yawn.

If you need a larger screen-The Envision 17" is a great choice, but cost $200 more. For most applications (I use my computer mainly for surfing the net, typing email, spreadsheets, and word processing) I found the 15" more than fine. I paid ... for my 15", which is only about ... more than I would have paid for a decent CRT. I think its well worth the extra $$$. I also gained half of my desk back. I am extremely satisfied with this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite exceptional 15" LCD Monitor, December 7, 2001
By Steve Adcock (Colorado Springs, CO United States) - See all my reviews
I will admit that I figured a little 15" monitor would severely lack the visual appeal I was after. However, after receiving the monitor and using it for a couple days I am very pleased with my purchase. I also use a 17" CRT monitor on my system, allowing me to perform direct comparisions. I am floored by the dramatic improvement on sharpness, color and contrast with the LCD. Text is crystal clear and very sharp and my desktop background, filled with bright oranges and yellows, screams to life with this LCD. I write on the web a lot, and this monitor does a great job rendering my textual writings.

This LCD offers a 1024x768 maximum resolution, putting to sleep other CRT 15" monitors by quite a long shot. I can sit back in my chair and pick up the LCD very easily, turn it around and flip it over without hesitation. Although I'm not in the habit of playing with my computer hardware, it's nice to know that I can. This monitor is more than worth the price, and I'd GIVE my 17" CRT away before I'd SELL my 15" LCD. Definite A+.

Steve
