5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Baroque music from little known composers, January 21, 2005
By Bruce Bogin (rural France) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Anyone who loves Baroque music but whose knowledge is limited to Bach, Handel and Vivaldi should move forward to enjoy the absolutely great music of some of the lesser knowns. I first encountered Jan Dismas Zelenka some time ago. In wanting to acquire more of his music I recently purchased the above CD and a CD of his Miserere. On this CD I met the music of Johann David Heinichen with his Missa Nr. 9 which takes up most of the CD. It is an absolutely great work as is Zelenka's Te Deum. Both works are superbly performed by the Dresden Choir and Orchestra and by the soloists. Expand the horizons of your Baroque music by adding the works of these two composers to your collection.
