Amazon.com Review
As the style of professional wrestling on TV has changed, so have the video games. Gone are the days of simple bouts between two men in tights. Wrestling is now a violent soap opera full of plot twists, romance, and intrigue. WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It accordingly contains as much story as it does action. The game features more than 40 WWF wrestlers who participate in 70 types of matches. Superstars like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock, and Kurt Angle are joined by characters like Stephanie McMahon, Fred Durst, and Tajiri. Special matches include Falls Count Anywhere, Royal Rumble, Last Man Standing, and TLC (Tables, Ladders, Chairs). Plus there are plenty of secret wrestlers, rings, and matches that can be unlocked, adding to the replay value.

Gamers familiar with the controls of the Smackdown series will feel right at home. The game plays largely the same, with some additional moves and finishers. While having familiar and responsive controls is definitely a good thing, the graphics should not be too familiar on a next-generation system. Unfortunately, the game's character models haven't progressed much from the PlayStation version. However, the improvements in animations and ring entrances are fantastic.

The biggest flaw in the game is the commentary by Tazz and Michael Cole. There are several instances in which the commentary is disjointed and unnatural, and it often fluctuates severely in volume. This is a shame, as the announcers are a big part of pro wrestling's storytelling. Despite this problem, WWF Smackdown! Just Bring It packs more than enough quality gameplay and variety to thrill any WWF fan. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:

  • Classic gameplay with some nice refinements
  • Lots of features to unlock
  • Great multiplayer fun
Cons:
  • Disjointed commentary is distracting and annoying
  • Story mode is limited
  • Unimpressive character models

5.0 out of 5 stars Thq + Yukes= genius wwf game, August 23, 2001
By A Customer
This game is gonna be the best. there's a bunch of modes. like the newly added 3 stages of hell. Plus season is gonna be roaming mode that's right u get 2 walk around backstage during season and u can go to vince or the commishoners office and get a match. see the hardcore champ and want his belt beat him up pin him and it's yours cause of the 24/7 rule. see 2 guys fighting in the ring don't like 1 go do your special on him. plus there gonna have newcomers. such as rhyno, tajiri, justin credible, raven, etc. Fully useable tables set up in corner and gore someone set up behind you and do a backdrop. i got 2 words for ya MUST BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars smackdown has come to playstation 2, September 4, 2001
By "bloodstream" (murray, UT USA) - See all my reviews
I have been everday looking at wwf smackdown just bring it for the playstation 2 I have seen movies and pictures the thing that I like is the new guys I know that william Regal, rhyno, spike dudley will be on the game so far they have over 60 mathces they have a new one called three stages of hell it is where you can fight in one mathch a street fight,in the 2ND match just a one on one match and the third match is in a cage it sounds like a cool game. the only thing that suck's is when the undertaker comes out on his bike the wheels don't move at all,The new smackdown set will be on the game and mick foley will be a hidden charcter and stone cold steve austin will come out to his new aliance music that he has and now It will come out on november 15 becuse they had to put more things into it and a hidden charcter that will be on the game as reported from thq the makers of smackdown just bring it RVD will be a hidden charcter. and the game triple h comes out to his new music by motorhead and the undertaker comes out to limpbiskit rollen I will sugest that you buy this game in november in my point it will be the best smackdown series they came out with so buy I know I will.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Truth about WWF Smack Down: Just Bring It, November 12, 2001
By "shukokahn" (San Antonio TX, USA) - See all my reviews
The truth about Just Bring It is hard to find out reading all these costumers reviews. Here is the truth about the game play. It is the exact same controls as the previous Smack Down Games. But it seems to be diffrent from the previous games because the game is smoother and faster, so the controls seem to be alittle weird at first then you get use to it. The graphics are seriously intense and smooth. Austin finally looks like Austin. Kane finally looks thick and not pale like he was dead.

There taunts and movement is smooth and life like. It looks like your watching the show on tv. You can jump into the crowd and the people move out of the way and cheer for you. You can go up the ramp with out having to wait for a stupid arrow to turn blue. The wrestlers music is there. Exept for Austins. Its new. Its not Disturbed's version, or his new one bye Zach Wylde. So I don't know what is going on with that. But Rollin' and The Game by Mottor Head and Limp Bizkit for Taker and Hunter.
You're probaly asking " How the hell do you know this, you are probaly lying like everybody else. " (...) I also know this because I am one of the 500 people who won a Just Bring It demo disc. That is every thing on the disc that I explained. There is two diffrent matches you can play in the demo. Single and Tag. I explained the singles match. The tag match is similar. But the difrence then in the previous smack down games, you don't have to throw your opponent in to your corner, that is just one of the ways. When your partner jumps into help you let him pick up your opponent and then do a move while you partner is holing him and you will do a double team move. Now that was just the demo I played. No for the info on the full game. This is from the official web sites of THQ and the Smack down game web site.
There are ruffly 35 diffrent wrestlers. I am sure there will be a couple of hidden charecters. Who they will be, I have no clue.
70 diffrent match types. The only ones I know for fact are TLC, Hell In A Cell, 6 man tag, tables, ladder, Royal Rumble with up to 9 people in the ring at one time, Bigger King of the Ring card, others I don't know about. Now there are some truths to what people are saying in there reviews. You can rome around backstage, come out to the ring to interfere in the match, you can can fight for the hardcore championship anytime you want with the 24/7 rule, walk in and bug the commish or Mr. McMahon and get a match. That is true, check the websites. You can also jump your opponent before he gets to the ring, pic a fight with your tag partner if you loose a tag match, If you beat up the ref to much he will disqualify you, he has done it to me sevral times in the demo. You can distract him too if your opponents try to pin your tag partner. There is going to be a verry huge and extensive back stage area for you to fight in during falls anywhere and hardcore matches. The full entrances are there. Unlike in the previous titles where you just walk in front of the Titantron, it shows the titantron video, then you see them walk through the curtains, down the ramp, up the walk way and then into the ring. Kane will throw his down and the ring post will burst into flames. Hunter will stand on the ring apron and spit water into the crowd. Taker rides around the ring on his Titan Bike. Austin jumps up on all the ring post. Rock does his thing on the outside of the ring post. The entrances are the way they should be. Even Howard Finkel annouces you into the ring. Him or Michael Cole. I am still trying to find out about that one. But you are itroduced to the ring. Michael Cole and Tazz to comentary. You can interact with them during a match, and Tazz even calls the matches he is in. Thats pretty cute. These are the truths about WWF SMACK DOWN JUST BRING IT. Don't listen to these people who say they have played the games, or know someone who has. Check the web sites I have listed and make your own choice about this game and Raw Is War. But from what I played on the demo, this is going to be one of the must buy games if you are a WWF fan, or just a sports fan. I hope I helped you make a decision, and have fun.
