5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome in 1982...still awesome in 2002, February 19, 2002
By Thomas Janowski "tomj1963" (Rochester, NY United States) - See all my reviews

My cassette tape of Voyeur wore out long ago. I have been making do with Kim's greatest hits CD. I'm not sure why all of a sudden I had a craving for all the Voyeur songs on CD but I ordered it and I have to say I can't believe I have managed for so long without hearing some of these songs.

"Say You Don't Know" alone is worth the price of this CD. But all the songs from start to finish are excellent. I'm not so sure all the songs fit together cohesively as an album, but I'm just thankful to have these awesome songs.

The bonus live version of "Still Hold On" makes me want to see Kim live. And the previously unreleased "Dead In My Tracks" is yet another great song.

"Merc Man", "The Arrangement" and "Thrill of the Grill" are three more standouts of this often maligned follow up to Mistaken Identity.

I think Voyeur is every bit as good as Mistaken Identity, though Voyeur seems to have been mostly overlooked and forgotten.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's been too long, November 25, 2002
By Jorge A. Rodriguez (Pompano Beach, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
the waiting for the CD release of this brilliant recording of Miss Carnes. This is what it might be Carne's masterpiece. It's clear how ahead of her time she was when making this record. Kim Carnes, producer Val Garay, and her band had crafted a sophisticaded pop-rock album blending a variety of styles and sounds, resulting in an excellent record. This is an essential and a must have recording of an underrated female singer-songwriter. Also, it comes with three previously unreleased songs. Go, get it and listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Are you hot tonight?", February 26, 2005
By W. Wilkinson (Colonie, NY United States) - See all my reviews

"Voyeur" was the 1982 follow-up to Kim Carnes's 1981 smash "Mistaken Identity." The album was not really a success at all. And unfortunately (though fortunately for me) Kim Carnes became part of the big corporate money-making-music machine of the 1980s, churning out album after album with little or no artistic control or input, with little or no success.

"Voyeur" was the first single, and really the only hit ... and that was even a stretch considering it only made #29 pop. But there are many more wonderful songs besides this one on the album, including "Looker," "Say You Don't Know Me," and "Undertow." But my favorite is the power-ballad "Does it Make You Remember." Kim sings this one with such conviction and such passion ... that you really begin to feel sorry for her, and wish her career in the pop/rock mainstream was longer and more lucrative.

Like many other artists of the era (Sheena Easton and Laura Branigan come to mind), Kim deserved to be a superstar.
