Hardball OST, September 18, 2001
Urban Vibes by PhenomPheatured Album: Hardball OST So So Def/Sony/ Columbia Release Date: 9/11/01 Genre: Various Artists OST - Hip Hop The Hardball OST stands up to the plate. The first pitch is thrown - Strike one! This album is clean, so be prepared for the nuisance of changed lyrics, strange sounds over curses, and other annoying ways of covering up foul language. The second pitch is thrown - It's a hit! A number of hiphop's favorite "Lil'" men including Lil' Bow Wow, Lil' Wayne, Lil' Zane, and the R&B vocals of Sammie have combined to create a radio friendly first single entitled "Hardball." From the top of the order down to the bottom, the Hardball OST's lineup never gives the pitcher or listener a break. The heavy hitters consist of artists such as Jagged Edge, RL from Next, R. Kelly, Mobb Deep, Big Tymers, Da Brat, The Notorious BIG, Xscape, and the "Lil'" men previously noted - all brought together by the team's successful manager and producer Jermaine Dupri. Complementing the talent of these elite are newcomers R.O.C., Tigah, and Fundisha - all three showing considerable potential. One may have heard R.O.C. and Tigah rapping on a number of So So Def produced remixes and other impressive endeavors while also catching a soothing earful of Fundisha "Johnson" as a background vocalist on Tyrese's and Lauryn Hill's last albums. It is rumored that Fundisha's "Insomnia" is to be the next single which will most likely find the success of previously released singles such as Toya's "I Do" or Mona Lisa's "Can't Be Wasting My Time" to bring it back a little. If you are looking for thought-provoking lyrics or hardcore beats, this soundtrack is not for you. If you enjoy commercial hiphop with an occasional ballad, the Hardball OST is a good bet. *Phenom Phenom's Pheelings: #: 1 pound = A Complete CatastroPHE # # # # #: 5 pounds = Absolutely PHENOMenal Hardball OST = # # # ½ : A good addition to any CD collection
