Sabatier Copper Balance 11-Piece Knife Set with Block

Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This dramatic copper-plated knife set belongs on a countertop where it can be admired, but it is also functional as it includes the essential cutlery for a busy kitchen. The knives in this set include an 8-inch chef's knife, an 8-inch slicing knife, a 5-inch utility knife, a 3-1/2-inch paring knife, and four 4-1/2-inch steak knives. An 8-inch sharpening steel and professional kitchen shears also come with the set. All pieces fit within a 10-slot ebony wood block with the Sabatier logo in copper on the front.

Made in China rather than France, the Balance series of cutlery is one of Sabatier's more affordable lines and has thinner blades than knives in some of the manufacturer's premier series. Still, this cutlery set is a wonderful value for its price. Blades are forged of high-carbon stainless steel for durability and are taper-ground for a strong edge and for more control during slicing. The gorgeous forged handles are made of copper-plated 18/10 stainless steel and are hollow to provide the perfect amount of weight and balance for safe cutting. The exception is the four steak knives, which have solid handles. These knives should always be hand washed to preserve the quality of the blades. --Cristina Vaamonde

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, December 7, 2002
By A Customer
The only reason these knives get two stars is because they are beautiful looking knives. Unfortunatly, they are not very useful. Out of the box these knives are dull. VERY DULL. Dull knives are extreamly dangerous because there is a greater tendancy to slip off the food your trying to cut and so begins an accident. Try dicing an onion with a dull knife. The sharpening steel can not sharpen a blade this dull. They would require the services of a professional knife sharpener. I am going to exchange this set for a new one. Perhaps I just got a bad set.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great set ....., February 1, 2003

I am thrilled with this set!! Absolutly beautiful to look at, Very well made, perfect weight, extremly sharp..right out of the box...I use the Chef's knife every day and love the feel of it!
Just be sure to wash & dry it by hand everytime you use them, otherwise they will stain (you'll notice that with lemons etc).
I suggest you try these yourself..I am very happy to have found this set..and for a terrific price!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all that glitters...., January 21, 2003
By A Customer
I purchased these knives because I desperately needed a new knife set. I really liked the all metal design and the shiny copper handles, and they did look like they would be sharp. To my surprise the knives were so dull I had to sharpen them right away!!
Overall I am happy they look nice in my kitchen and I got them for a steal ...!! I would not recommend buying these if your'e looking to invest in a good set of knives. I think you do get what you pay for. Don't be fooled by the way they look.
I just have to say after using WUSTHOF grand prix. These knives are just for decoration!!! If you cook everyday like me DO NOT buy these. Because I could not afford to buy a full set of WUSTHOF, I just bought the 7" inch santoko knife and have had it for 2 years now. That is the only knife I have in my kitchen, you get the rest. It will slice paper like those corny commercials.lol! Don't waste your $$$.

While this set of knives does look pretty cool (and for that reason alone, I've rated them as worthy of two stars, vs. none). Read more

Good price, but unfortunately have a couple of problems. First, the set I received is not that sharp. The company could have done a much better job sharpening them. Read more

...It is true that they are not the sharpest or highest quality knives. But for that price they cut well enough and they look fantastic hanging in my kitchen. Read more

These knives are a nice light-weight stainless steel and great to look at but that's where the accolades end. I could not believe how dull the blades were. Read more
