Product Description

Product Description
Princess of Ireland is a special Barbie that has been crafted with style and loving attention to detail. She has green eyes, auburn hair, and fair skin. She wears a gorgeous cloak and dress ensemble in shades of deep green. The textured fabric has intricate Celtic designs add allure. Though this Barbie has obviously been designed with collectors in mind, there's no reason she can't be added to any Barbie fan's repertoire. The doll comes with a stand and a certificate of authenticity.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true VIP (Very Irish Princess), January 31, 2002
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
Coming from an Irish family, I have accumulated many different types of Irish collectibles over the years: stuffed animals, Beanie Babies, glasses, books, jewelery...all with some sort of Irish theme. But until recently I didn't have any Irish dolls, porcelain or otherwise. I have been collecting Dolls of the World Barbies for a number of years, and more recently Princess of the World dolls, so I couldn't believe it when I found out that a Princess of Ireland Barbie would be made. I was nervous that the doll wouldn't "feel" Irish enough. So when I received her in the mail I was pleasantly surprised that she was even more beautiful than in the photos online. Her complexion is very fair, and her auburn hair is stunning in natural light. Her green eyes are sparkling and mysterious, and she wears a very light rose eyeshadow that makes her beautiful eyes stand out even more. Her costume is sort of a medieval/Celtic blend. She wears a velvety soft forest green cloak with a golden Tara brooch clasp, a traditional Celtic design. Her dress is a crinkly olive green fabric with a stripe of Celtic designs down the middle. At her waist she wears a belt of three golden medallions with Celtic designs, and on her head, perfectly balanced atop her auburn hair, a golden crown fit for an Irish princess. The box she comes in is also perfect for displaying her in. Appropriately enough, it is green (Ireland is actually a Viking word for green) with golden trim. The backdrop inside of the box is an Irish castle. There is information about the Celts on the back of the box. This is sure to become a treasured keepsake in my family, and I'm planning on buying more for relatives and friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a Celtic beauty., April 29, 2002
Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
"Many years ago on the misty islands of the European continent, a noble race known as the Celts inhabited the land." (Mattel) Thus begins the information on the back of the box, which reads like a fairytale.

Princess of Ireland is breathtaking. She is more incredible than any of the on-line pictures can show. Her complexion is fair, and her auburn hair shines with deep, rich color; a section on the left is braided, and cascades to her thigh. Her cheeks are dusty roses, her green eyes seem to twinkle, and her lips are the color of garnets. She wears a forest green velvet cloak; the clasp is a Tara Broach, "a very famous bejeweled pin thought to have been worn by Celtic royalty." The golden broach is the color of her crown and the three Celtic medallions on the half-belt at her waist. Her dress is loose fitting, as the time would indicate. Down the middle of the front of her gown is a 1" wide gold, green, and shades of rose trim that displays several Celtic designs.

Behind the Princess of Ireland, there is a castle with several turrets. Should you choose to display this doll out of her box, a stand is included.

Fun: She is stunning, and brings imagination the first time you glance at her.
Educational benefit: This is an opportunity to share the history of the Celts and the beauty of Ireland.
Durability: Well constructed; if a young child plays with this fair lass, then expect her hair to get tangled, but she will hold together.

This is a very reasonably priced doll for collectors and as gifts for favorite children, they will love her -- another princess for their collections.

Victoria Tarrani

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY, April 25, 2002
By Melissa Boulton (Groton,Ct USA) - See all my reviews
Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
My entire family, and most of my friends, are quite tired of the tirad that I had against Mattel. Everytime someone went with me to the toy department, they would be able to her my very bitter and all consuming rant against Mattel and they're inexcusable lack of a Irish Babrbie. The pithy excuse they came out with a few years ago did, in no way, grant a clear window into the breath taking beauty of Ireland, or for that matter, the Irish Lass. But, all that changed when I discovered the Irish Princess Barbie. The moment my husband saw her, he rushed down the aisle, calling me over to her. She is outstandingly beautiful. The information on the back of her box makes her a great teasure to behold. I can not believe that after the failed attmepts that Mattel started with that they were able to create such an amazing perfection of plastic. She is a joy that I will gladly pass tp my daughter and I am now the proud owner of two. (Well, I couldn't take them both out of the box, could I?) Thank you, Mattel. She is aboulutely perfect!
