Amazon.com Review

It might not be OK to jump out from behind bushes to scare kids in real life, but in Monsters, Inc. Scare Island, players won't get very far without freaking out plenty of virtual kids. Playing as either the diminutive Mike or the gigantic Sulley, the goal is pretty simple: to maneuver through training grounds on Scare Island, avoid menaces like toys and alarm clocks, grab food, and scare as many little ones as you can in the time allotted. Robotic children called Nerves are designed by the monsters to test players' abilities and separate the elite Scarers from the "wannabes."

The controls are very simple to learn and use--tapping the arrow keys and a few letters will have the onscreen monsters bouncing, yelling, and shaking their scary-makers. That said, we recommend using a gamepad rather than your PC's keyboard for better overall control. The 3-D animation features some cool backgrounds, including desert, mountain, jungle, and city scenes, but the characters are a little blocky; this doesn't affect gameplay at all, but those used to the slick Pixar look might be mildly disappointed.

Gameplay is fast and funny--most folks will find themselves mastering the scare techniques in short order and blasting through the 16 zones. While exciting and oftentimes humorous, these hijincks provide little educational value and can even be a bit frightening for children on the younger end of the recommended age range. The characterizations, sounds, and bonus film clips do make the software a great addition for fans of the movie, but the game itself probably won't keep most players' attention for very long. (Ages 8 to 11) --Rob Lightner

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorry, did I scare you?, March 26, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc. Scare Island (CD-ROM)
This Game is cool with a capital C! Sulley looks a bit blocky, but who cares! After beating a stage, players get to give Randall Boggs a serious case of Road Rash and Envy. Tons of secret areas, like a treehouse/treeslide (Above a house in a area where Randall throws barrels.) in CITY PARK, and a Pagoda (Don't know.) and Sumo Statue Chamber (Via the sewers.) in the MARKETPLACE. Three more things,

1. Find "Nerves" and scare them to earn Bronze and Gold Medals.

2. Collect Monster tokens to earn Silver Medals.

3. After you get the Silver Medal in a world, A secret Red "Nerve" will appear somewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars fine piece of entertainment!, January 12, 2002

I think this game was great. Great features, options, gaming abilities, spectacular levels, and good graphics make this game a fun one to play! Although it may not be what you would expect it to be if you have played the game, it's still fun. If you liked Disney's Hercules(game) and X-men mutant academy, you might like this. It's a lot like Hercules and sort of reminds me of the x-men game due to it's special features and the things you have to do in the levels. Anyway I think this game is good and it's also for Harry Potter (game) lovers although the HP game wasn't really what I expected it to be!

I'm 16 and have probably played this game since i were 10. Obviously much less, but I still haven't grown sick of it. I've probably completed the game 4-5 times. I even got my 40-year-old father to finish it. Great game for children 8 and up. Good graphics and tons of secret areas.
