The ideal vessel for braising meats and vegetables or cooking them in a long-simmering stew. The heavy cast iron round French oven (or Dutch oven) with a tight fitting lid provides a blanket of heat which gently and evenly cooks food, sealing in moisture and flavour, whether on the stove top or in the oven. The porcelain enamel coating is non-reactive and won't absorb food odours or flavours, and is dishwasher safe. It's also elegant enough for serving at the table.
This French oven absorbs heat quickly, distributes it evenly and gently, and retains the heat long after removal from the heat source. The even thickness of the cast iron base, walls, and lid means that heat distribution is even and energy efficient. The cookware is coated with two coats of vitrified enamel for extra durability; the hygienic, impermeable enamelled surface means the cookware can be used for marinating food prior to cooking or for food storage after cooking, and protects the cookware against rusting. The lid's phenolic handle is oven safe to 356°F/180C.
