The Hollywood Reporter, October 8-10, 1999
"Aheady blend of history, romance, and music that will thrill aficionados while providing an enticing introduction to newcomers."

Product Description
In this award winning and critically acclaimed film, dancers, musicians, poets and historians share their most intimate thoughts and experiences as part of this bohemian, seductive, and obsessed lifestyle. You will discover their quest for passion, self-fulfillment, and perfection that transcends ethnicity, race and national borders. You will explore the history of the dance from its African roots through the "Golden Years" in the early 1900’s. You will revel in the Tango today and the debates that will shape its future. Others have documented the Tango; director Adam Boucher has succeeded in surpassing the images and touching the heart and soul of its people. Shot almost entirely in Argentina, this film offers both modern and historical footage against a musical backdrop of over 20 songs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Experience The Drug Called Tango!, November 18, 2001
By "reveler515" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
After visiting Buenos Aires earlier this year, I saw first-hand how Tango can entrance the dancers. Further, Argentineans do not just dance the Tango -- they live it! After returning to the States, I wanted to discover more about the roots of Tango. I could not have asked for a better guide into this world than "Tango: The Obsession"! This film goes beyond the dance of Tango. This film explores how Tango has interwoven its themes historically, anthropologically and sociologically into the lives of its participants. In one scene, Boucher interviews Carlos Copello, a famous Tango dancer. Here, Copello flamboyantly compares the Tango dance to a drug -- an addiction that must be nourished! This is an underlying theme of the film that communicates the significance of Tango as not simply an artistic expression, but as a cultural definition.

From Tango's surprising beginnings to modern times, "Tango: The Obsession" weaves an amazing tapestry of knowledge -- interwoven with diverse and captivating images, interviews and, of course, music. "Tango: The Obsession" is a masterpiece that I enjoy viewing repeatedly to get my "fix"!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tango Lover's Delight!, November 14, 2001
By A Customer
This documentary takes an extraordinary look at the world of Argentine tango and the people who embrace this dance. I recommend this film to anyone interested in Tango and its roots. And for those who are just now discovering Tango, TANGO THE OBSESSION is a great resource for inspiration and passion.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Tango Obsession, May 2, 2004
By Arthur R. Spinner (Yonkers, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This is a Spanish speaking video and I was very disappointed in the sub titles. They were very amateurish and difficult to read. I'm sure the person speaking had some interesting comments but the sub titles did not convey this information. The pictorial story was good and the photography of the tango dancing was excellent but again the sub titles did not let you really know what was going on.
