5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Album, November 24, 2001
By A Customer
Songs for the Front Row exemplifies what Ocean Colour Scene is all about. This band is about the music, and it is some great music. This modern band from England should be rocking in 1975, but luckily they are here today. Tracks such as "Huckleberry Grove" and "The Riverboat Song" illustrate how diffrent there styles can be, and how they pull it off. I have nothing but praise for this album and this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars everything rock n roll should be, December 14, 2001
By Bryan Wilson (Lexington, MA United States) - See all my reviews
when it comes right down to it, good music brings out memorable emotions. i don't really care what anyone has to say about ocean colour scene's stubborn traditionalism. yup, this music sounds like it came straight out of the 60s and 70s, but who are we to penalize them or denigrate them for being born about twenty or thirty years too late? some musical egotists might gasp at the blatant blaspheme that is to follow: ocs stands as tall as nearly anything from the era they idolize. that's right, the proof is in the songs, man. it's goodtime, mind-numbingly passionate rock n roll, that will be timeless. the guitars, the attitude, the vocals, it's all there. and the lyrics are pretty damn good too, even if they sometimes mean less then they seem. just a talented band at what they do. appreciate that and listen to this. not a song will disappoint. my only minor quibble is the absence of their masterpiece, "get away" but at eight minutes, i can see why they left it out. if you don't own their first (real) album yet, this will just make you get that one eventually. and i hate new greatest hits packages. this one's done right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Rockin', December 21, 2001
I heard this playing in my local record store and had to ask who it was! My first thoughts were which band/album from the seventies had I missed? This contains all the excitement of a seventies band with good songs, some riffs, use of wah wah pedal, crisp drumming and interesting vocals. I bought the cd immediately and it has been a favourite since. Definitely worth buying and will lead you to their other albums
